Every once in a while, I preach the ignorant to the ways of the Touhou. I give them a few links, push them into the gameplay, and perhaps even tell sometihng about the characters...

The last guy made it a trend in his class.

It's my goal to spread Touhou to as many people as possible.

Shoot-em-ups are my favorite games; it would warm my heart to see your average low power level fan get into those kinds of games due to Touhou.

Even Japanese ZUN himself would be proud of this.

Here's the thing about Touhou: no one likes it. Not even the most manic suicidally depressed Japanese hikkimori likes it. It's probably not even meant to be liked, but rather to be worn as a badge of honor -- a battle-scar of the most hardcore of the hardcore bedroom monitor-hanging ronery freak.

Are you retarded? There are definitely a few very reliable and longtime contributors, but there are just as many leechers, if not more leechers and retards there compared to /jp/. The worst part is some of those leechers like to group themselves with the contributors and act all elitist. (percentage wise anyway, since /jp/ has much higher traffic obviously)

Poolshmer was a much better place before the purge. Then again I might just have just been under the "novelty syndrome" back then

>Shoot-em-ups are my favorite games
I figured that much. You probably grew up in the pre-Zelda generation. You enjoy hollow games where you compete against your friends and family to get the highest score with out losing any of your mans.

Two bit genres such as the platforming genre and the shoot em up genre are over. Personally, I prefer adventure, puzzle-solving, and exploring games like Zelda, Castlevania, and Metroid. Shoot em ups are all tits and no ass. I prefer games with depth. I really cant stand you casual gamers who treat video games as games. Get with the 21st century. Games nowadays are more than just action packed fun. Games like Metroid fuse storytelling, rpg, platforming, exploring, puzzle solving, and action.

I'm glad that you casual gamers are in the minority. The shoot em up genre doesn't have what it takes to make it with the big boys. Enjoy your outdated genre you retro cock sucking fangirl.

Note that there are three types of casual gamers:
1.The retro generation (the idiots who think Space Invaders and Pacman are good). They only play 2 hour long games.
2.College frats who only play Madden, Halo, and GTA.
3.Children who are new to the video game industry. Their mothers choose most of their games for them.

Sorry Anon, /jp/ loves every Castlevania ever made. Even Haunted Castle Dracula, because it had awesome music.

Just listen to that combo of "I Can't Wait Until Night" and "Heart of Fire" used in Aria of Sorrow. Shit is awesome:

Bad gameplay is a subjective term.

I even maintain that those games are too old to have bad mechanics, because they were so damn simple. It was just a matter of good timing and patience.

NOW, with camera angles, 3D environments, collision models and such, it's extremely difficult to find a good balance, so game makers err on the side of shiteasy difficulty. Skill has faded, and games have developed into story vehicles more than anything else.

>/jp/ loves every Castlevania ever made.

Furgenn russen furger.

I have to say though, perhaps my absolute most fun moment in gaming ever was in SotN, and it WAS a challenge.
I was low, low level because I wasn't exploring enough, and just got the super jump boots. I decided to explore... and the first place I explored ran me into ol' Richter Belmont.
The ensuing battle was BALLISTIC.
I can't even describe it enough.
I won, but I was out of healing and revives (yes I used the Fairy), and was in the low double digits when I got the killing blow.

I don't care if that was a bad end. It was a GODLY WIN for me.

I'm not going to tack on "In my opinion," in front of my rants just for semantics.
