What was the point of this? I mean as far as art projects go, I don't see much improvement compared to the original version. I'd rather just watch the original.

Well, my aspiration was not to make an improved version compared to the original. It was just recreating as much as possible with what I had. While editing the whole thing I noticed too late just how perfect the original was. Like in terms of models, animation, timing,... no way i can be a match. Have hardly done any compositing before either.

The whole point was to create a version with real humans, since i was wondering how nobody had done that before. But people could obviously do better. Maybe someone better sees this and makes that version. Would be cool

Just looks awkward and sloppy to me. The main appeal of the original is the snappy, fluid scene transitions. In this, the dancing just feels awkward and the transitions forced. It just kind of feels pointless when most of the shifts are just smashed in with digital effects (which makes you wonder what's even the point of using real people?) instead of playing off the forms/etc.

It'd be a lot cooler if it were more "live" like shot through a shadow screen or with monochromatic costumes (zentai suit/etc) or something with more clever use of positioning/etc to mimic the effects of the original video less literally with digital effects (not that you couldn't/shouldn't use any, just if that's all there is, why bother using live anything at all).

Thanks for your feedback. I see your point, it may seem off to use real people only to have them be transmuted digitally. It really hasn't struck me before. And while I don't think that approach is wrong it does kinda remind one of the modern film industry where practically everything is done via CGI. Just ...heh, a tad bit more professional.

I like this "live" idea. Will definitely keep it in my head, should the opportunity ever rise again to produce something like this. Either with digital effects or - and that would be really amazing with the shadows - a sequence shot.

The problem with real people is that when you work with virtual models everybody just uses the best model, but just because there's a top-class professional dancer with a nice figure out there doesn't mean you can load her into MMD and have her do whatever you want.
