One day, Shiki tripped over Aoko's hair and broke his glasses on the sidewalk. Aoko didn't fell like dealing with her sister to get another pair so she went home. Shiki began to get a headache because he saw lines everywhere and he really hated geometry. He stumbled home and headache was so bad that he started puking on the floor. The maids were too busy fingering each other to help. Akiha was still at school and Ciel showed up and lent him her glasses, but when he saw how stupid he looked in them he got mad and killed her and puked on her body. Then he started puking up stomach acid and burned a hole in the floor. When Akiha got home, she was so angry about the unsightly hole in front of her favorite tea drinking chair that she killed Shiki and made the maids clean it up. The end.

1. They're glasses stolen from Aoko's older sister, one of the most powerful Magi. She wouldn't make "placebo" glasses.
2. As Shiki's MEoDP gets stronger, the glasses stop being useful and he has to get something better (see: Satsujinki)

Apparently thats how it works. Since Shiki was a young kid when he got them his mind was easily influencable so Aoko gave him the glasses probably under the premesis that they would tell his brain "You can stop letting me see death now". So the glasses were sort of a safe zone for his sanity. As his power progressed though it gets alot fucking harder to turn them off,for what reason I dont know though.

I forget completly when he noticed this. I think it was was in either Hisui's route or Kohaku's. Or perhaps i'm completly off and it was in Kagetsu.
