All I can think of is Marisa/Reimu and the Tsukumo's personally.

I have more problems in Alice's stage than the rest of the game, although that's more the stage than Alice. Two of the Prismrivers are probably harder, boss wise. I can't remember which of the three I find easier offhand.

I don't know about EosD. Remila is really hard but Sakuya isn't as hard. I don't remember much about Meiling or Patchouli, but I really don't remember anything about Patchouli. Either I start fucking up early or I'm going all the way to Remilia, but I don't think that qualifies 3 and 4 as being harder.

I can't speak for the rest of the games because I don't think I've played anything after UFO for long enough. Still gotta catch up on them.

But PCB and IN for sure, and maybe what you said. I need to play that game. In any case, I said "sometimes." As hard as Doremi is, the game might not be progressively even harder is my point.

Considering that Point-device mode is meant to be the intended way to play, however, I'm not sure the difficulty will be toned down. Imagine how dull point-device mode would be if the game had the difficulty of TD.

Because pointdevice feels like a photography/ISC type of game in a main Touhou game, which feels weird and unnecessary. And what's the point of making the game super difficult when after dying you can simply restart from the stage checkpoint and continue on without any major negative consequences instead of the ususal "you fucked up, you have to restart from the beggining if you want the good ending".

In DDc Kagerou is probably the hardest boss so I guess that qualifies as example

I finally grew a brain and realized the boss milking potential. I drain the boss' HP just right at the end, then turn off my shot, graze till the timer's almost out, then finish it off. It's a bit of a distraction with dodging the patterns though.
