Question, would it be challenging for a westerner to make profit off a visual novel they written? I ask this because we all know that people upload Ryukishi07’s work on YouTube. And I don’t mean videos of major event scenes such as, The Battle of the Golden Land or the final battle Bernkastel vs Battler & Ange. No, I am talking about the entire series. Hypothetically speaking, if Ryukishi07 was a westerner and his visual novels were in English, would you think people would still upload his entire visual novels on YouTube? It would be taking money out his pockets, right? Why buy the visual novel when you can watch it online for free? Then again, as the creator of the visual novel, he could ask YouTube to take it down, with a copyright claim. But there’s still ways around that, such as commentary and gameplay vids. Hmm…

that is old shit, back in 2011 we used to have youtube translations I think oreimo psp was the first to be ''translated`` that way
it's bullshit because you're vids can be taken down at any moment at random and you miss out on interactivty

Yes. Although first night is better than second night. It's still worth reading the whole thing as there are some really great stories.

From experience I'll tell you that the first VN was actually pretty good. While not as good as Umineko it certainly was a shitton darker. No, I mean it was really fucking dark. The second one on the other hand was shit, I actually dropped it.

Bullying, the VN. It's pretty entertaining and got a god-tier atmosphere.

>> No.13755324

>>13752169
I'm assuming it must be profitable because there are *tons* of Western VNs popping up on Steam and Kickstarter. I just kickstarted this English yuri VN, Starlight Vega. It had a goal of $3,550 and made $22,264 in pledges. Not too bad. Certainly, you're not gonna get rich making English VNs, but it can be profitable. A VN is pretty much the cheapest possible genre of game to produce.

It's very good. Actress girl and running girl are both some of Ryukishi's best works.
Second Night is a bit less dark but still pretty good.

>> No.13762518

>>13753003
Very very good IMO. I have not yet fully read even the 1st night though, because it's so dark and depressing and I'm already depressed enough as it is. It makes me reminisce about a lot of bad things and have terrible thoughts. All things considered, I love it and whenever I muster enough courage I read another chapter, so I'm advancing slowly. Other people with less empathy, more desensitized to these kind of things or not mature enough might not find it so troublesome, and a lot of the themes in it would fly over their heads. However, missing that I think you would miss the whole point of the VN.

My exact thoughts when I started reading through Higanbana actually.
I kinda liked the second night more, even if it is just much softer than the intense first one.

It's just more meaningful imo.
Overall, Higanbana was a solid 8/10 for both nights.
