Realistically, how much money do you think Zun makes off of Touhou?
How many copies do you think he manages to sell of each game?
I understand he has a full time job in addition to Touhou, but do you think he could realistically make Touhou full time?

ZUN must regret supporting such a monstrous leeching community that literally makes more money from his ideas than him.

Though nips are used to survive with below average wages, so I guess he fares well.

ZUN earns more in a week from royalties than you ever will in your entire lifetime.

Though like most japs he's fairly modest, so hasn't built himself a palace. He probably could if he wanted to though.

Well, maybe if he was asking for money and sending cease&desists to that monstruous leeching community, it would not be so monstrous, in fact it might not exist at all.

Not exactly. His job, as of quitting Taito in 2007, was full-time Touhou. This period is basically how he got so much shit done during 2008~2009. At this time, his "day job" is writing and managing the Touhou manga, but besides this he's currently being a full-time dad.

By the way, that statement is also always unsourced as far as I can tell, and searching through Twitter around the supposed time period isn't giving me anything related. Such a tweet might have been talking about something else entirely (not that I'm saying it's false, since his new job is essentially Touhou).

As to answer the OP:
>>13721158
1. He does work on Touhou "full-time" in the sense that the series is what he spends all of his "working time" on and it's his main source of income, both through manga sales and whatever doujin works he makes and sells.

2. As one example of his earnings for the games in particular, it was mentioned in the MAG-net documentary that during Comiket, Double Spoiler sold out its 10000 copies, which were being sold for 1000円. Then, keep in mind that sales continued after Comiket through doujin shops, and also keep in mind that Double Spoiler was a side-game and likely didn't sell as much as the main games.

I was at Reitaisai 11 and all copies of impossible spellcard sold out at the half mark of the event. They were counting the money afterwards, just countless stacks of 1000 yen bills. And I was a few days later in akiba and all copies there were gone aswell.
Next to royalties from manga and merchandise, ZUN should have a decent income.

He brews different beer every year for the Niconico Super Conference. They're all named similarly:
超みかんエール "Super Orange Ale"
超不夜城レッド "Super Red the Nightless Castle"
超黒ひろゆき "Super Black Hiroyuki"
超インディーズゲームエールw "Super Indie Game Ale (lol)"
超幕張ラガー "Super Makuhari Lager"
Here's a visit to Baird Brewery, where he brews it: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm20430010
There are a bunch of videos up on Nico about ZUNbeer.

He's said before it takes about four months of development for a game (I can't recall if this was relating to side games or full ones), but that's also ignoring any planning and research going into it beforehand. It isn't like the games are the only thing he makes, either. But yeah, he rushes. He said back in May that he wasn't sure if he's going to be able to finish LoLK by C88.

You can't just ignore the time spent. 80k could be good profit depending on how many hours he put into the game, but I'd guess it amounts to a mediocre hourly wage.

This will probably never happen. Firstly, ZUN really dislikes poor treatment of workers, which is prominent in Japanese game dev, and considering animators are infamously mistreated even worse, it's hard to imagine him agreeing unless the studio had an excellent record. Plus, he's said time and time again that if a Touhou anime were ever to be made, it would not be an adaptation of an existing work, and just as he does with the manga ZUN would require very heavy reigns over most aspects, because that's how he does things.

Citation needed. I mean, I do see ZUN as the kind of person who would change everything to use placeholder assets even if the final ones are already done just to avoid spoilers, but still.
