News:
-Akashi can now upgrade type 13 air radar, type 21 air radar and their kai versions. They give extra accuracy, LoS and AA after upgrade.
-Wurfgerät 42 effects increased against installation type bosses, but it's still not as good as Type 3 shell with main guns on large ships.
-Isuzu kai 2, Verniy, Furutaka kai 2, and Kinugasa kai 2, have had stat increases.
-8cm twin high-angle mount and 15.2cm twin gun mount are now buildable (Agano-class stock equipment).
-Shoukaku, Zuikaku, and a CL will get kai 2 at some point during the summer.
-6-3 will be added in the 6/27 maintenance. Akitsushima and a torpedo squadron will be important.
-Rainy season furniture will be removed from the furniture shop and replaced with summer furniture.

Highest possible day damage for CA vs final form of 4-5 is Choukai Kai Ni with two fully upgraded 20.3 (3) with Sanshiki and green T performing a double attack which scores two crits and perfect armor rolls. 2x 173 damage. For Hotels with fully upgraded 51cm in the same scenario it's 2x 187 damage.

I started out with the anime, then started reading up on the other characters in the game, did some research, and watched a LP or 2 before I began playing.
By the time I started I had an idea of what who was like, a favorite DD, and a concept of the buttons (I still sank my first drop though due to accidentally pressing continue in a sleepy haze).
I'm happy to say that to date Mikazuki is the only loss I've ever sustained.
I had nightmares about getting Kumano, Zuikaku, and Shokaku during the event and promptly sinking them. I did end up getting all 3 over the course of it, but was extremely careful.

I also did some exploring of actual ships that fought them. CV-10 and DD Laffey. They spoke rather passionately of Zuikaku and Hiei.
I've also been watching WoWS vids to get an idea of what I'm working with, but have yet to successfully implement any strategies.

BB couldn't get MVP consistently, also animations took forever, and sometimes CVLs were damaged.

Somewhere around 20? Didn't count. I only had to retreat twice. Chiyoda really helps on second node. She usually kills DD with Seiran and kills CLT or cripples Tsu with torpedo. Actually, I would suggest two midget torps on her instead of two bombers. Zuiun won't kill LM DD anyway while stronger torp can help quite a lot.
I sparkled Chiyoda while waiting for morale between sorties but it didn't really make a difference.

I got green T during final kill but it was strange to say the least. Chiyoda with two midgets hit Ta for 3 damage with opening torp while expected value is 31. Kuma only killed DD and CA which she can do even in hankousen. I guess it helped by boosting Ta to damage cap = assured sink protection triggering so Yuudachi and Shigure were only chuuha'd before yasen. In hankousen on the other hand there's a decent chance Ta won't "sink" DDs but the hit will be strong enough to taiha. So, you got unlucky here. Don't give up.

As I said, terrible things can happen from time to time. But now consider using Shimakaze with +4 12.7 B instead of Hatsushimo with 12.7 LM. Base 9fp more, 3 on each gun, together it becomes 15 difference in damage. DD would die instead of staying with 5 HP. That means more shots at other enemies instead of fruitlessly trying to hit evasive Ni which in turn means less chuuha on your side so even more damage dealt to the enemy.
If all your ships can dispose of DD, there's a higher chance your stronger ships will target enemies like Ri either in their turn or in second shelling. You don't want your CL to perform double attack on destroyer in second shelling. Yukikaze+ are capable of sinking Ni LMs more often than not.

Of course, I understand perfectly if you want to use favorites and I actually encourage it but in such case you shouldn't claim the map is hard because not optimal fleet has problems with it. And by the time you reach 6-3, there shouldn't be any excuses for not having one DD or another.

I think the more important thing is:
51 HP ship gets chuuha'd at 25 HP and taiha'd at 12 HP.
52 HP ship gets chuuha'd at 26 HP and taiha'd at 13 HP, that one point doesn't increase survivability at all. What's more, it slightly increases scratch damage.
50 HP ship gets chuuha'd at 25 HP and taiha'd at 12 HP. However, 25 damage hit will chuuha 50 HP ship but won't chuuha a 51 HP ship.

More seriously - Fusous aren't as appealing character-wise compared to Tones and have higher remodel level. Eq-wise things are similar. There's nothing wrong in leaving Fusous until next month. You don't really need BBVs so it doesn't matter at all that Fusou K2 is much better than Ise Kai because you would never use Ise anyway outside of cheap training. Meanwhile getting Suzuya and especially Kumano/Mikuma might take some time, so having strong CAV is appreciated.

BBVs are easy enough to grind. If you're using that 3-2-A no fatigue method with a BBV with 4 radars she'll be 80 before long.

Well Reppuu 601 and Reppuu are similar too. Extra fighter power matters a lot more than extra other stats because AS+/AS/etc is unaffected by RNG.

BBVs are there for extra fighter power. It's always the little extra fighter power that makes a difference between AS and AS+, or parity and AS. BBVs Kai 2 are so that they aren't actually deadweight, and can dish out damage too. Having just either wouldn't justify using them in the fleet, but having both does.

In any case the usefulness of BBVs Kai 2 are more prominent in events than outside of events, so maybe that's why it's harder to see it now.

Failure from BB crafting attempts (all), 2-5 drop while farming for Akashi (Suzuya/Kumano). They're easier to get than you think. Maybe not all of them, but one is enough.

Also Kumano isn't much harder to get than Suzuya, the only map that drops Suzuya but not Kumano (5-3) is a map that people won't be caught farming.

It is worth it depending on what shit they gave you. Sometimes they give you jack shit sometimes they give you good equipment. Typically though you want top 20. Top 3 is definitely not worth it especially when you are competing with NEETs who literally spend like 18 hours of the game a day.

And why would you even consider to use Bisko's cut-in potential now? It's not even recommendable as she has mediocre luck, and of course you'd lose a reserve for your night plane or seaplane as well. An extra firepower wouldn't hurt in daytime because your main fleet is prone to misses, and her DA is reliable enough at night. As for Ooyodo, she's useful enough to put your yasen equipment to her, there's no need to tweak her further.

That is why you either gamble the cut-in or increase luck. It makes for intense situations. Carrier Task Force also has better accuracy bonuses compared to Surface, but if you're doing that, you might as well bring all 3 CLTs instead which leaves no room for Bismarck.
