I wouldn't say that, what is there to lose by making an all ages version for Steam and making a adult version for MG, if anything you get the pros of advertising on Steam which will lead people to your main website to buy the uncensored version with no Steam cut. All ages versions don't really effect anyone negatively unless they're the only version being produced.

>> No.13651233

>>13651203
>unless they're the only version being produced.
This is one of two things people seem to be afraid of. I don't think it's ever going to happen though, because translating the h-scenes is usually a pretty insignificant effort and they stand to make a fair amount of money selling the 18+ versions on their site. There is no real reason for them to ever stop doing this.

The other thing people are afraid of is that MangaGamer will stop picking up titles that can never be censored. Not just nukige, I doubt they'll ever stop doing that, too. I'm talking about stuff like Kara no Shoujo 1 and 2. There is a very real possibility that MG will look at a title, and if it's not nukige but also can't be released on Steam, they'll pass over it. I don't think this is happening yet, but it could happen in the future.

>> No.13651891

>>13651233
Those things are exactly what I fear is going to happen if to much focus is put on translating All Ages versions of VNs. Less VNs is getting translated by competent fan-translators so we have to put our hope in JAST and MangaGamer, which is worrying as the will completely screw us over if they can get more money by catering to a different crowd.

Can you still call people who don't bring in nearly as much money as normies, "fans"? As far as I know, part of the definition of "fan" is that you support the company/industry you're a fan of.

>>13651233
>There is no real reason for them to ever stop doing this.
Once "true fan" (definitely not just pirates who refuse to buy anything yet demand to be catered to) sales are dwarfed by "normie" sales, the reputation loss caused by selling porn in this market will no longer be worth the negligible extra profit. You know how, for example, MangaGamer can't use PayPal as payment option on their site because they're a porn company? I'm sure there's plenty of other problems they have in negotiations with various companies because they're a 'porn company'. It's only worth keeping around as long as sales are significant enough.

I thought if people email MG, then they could set up a one-time paypal payment. I've also heard something about MG gift cards, which I'm not sure of the details of. If these options exist, MG should definitely advertise them better, since many people have no idea they're even an option.

Short nukige take very little time to translate and have decent sales, so I don't see them going away either. As for longer, story-driven games, they usually don't have all that much sexual content to begin with. And while mainstream players don't always want the H-scenes, they also don't support anything they view as "censorship", so releasing the adult version is still necessary.

MG also employs fans who care about the industry to the extent we do, as they're not really making too much money I doubt it would be in their interests to replace them, but then again I guess normies don't care about TL quality and that so they could hire the same idiots SP and video game studios do. Bamboo also cares about the industry I mean BokuTen was a pretty big flop but he's still bringing it across.

In the current state I wouldn't really worry about it, the fact they completely removed the all ages version of their site to a positive response and increase in sales is something to take into account. If the reputation loss was that much they would just end up making a NotMangaGamer like Denpa Soft is for Sekai.

Who wouldn't want to try to recoup the losses they suffered and hope the game gets better reception overseas?

>they completely removed the all ages version of their site to a positive response and increase in sales is something to take into account.

Most of MG's existing fanbase like nukige and new customers couldn't find how to get to the adult section and left without buying anything due to the site's poor layout. And MG's all-ages is sparse anyway, especially now that the 7th Expansion titles are gone and their mistake of getting some rated by the ESRB.

>> No.13652417

>MG also employs fans who care about the industry to the extent we do
On a per-project basis. They don't really have a say in MG's business decisions.

>Bamboo also cares about the industry I mean BokuTen was a pretty big flop but he's still bringing it across.
That's quite an...optimistic way of looking at it, for sure. A more skeptical person would posit he just wants to wring a bit more revenue out of his massive investment that didn't pay off as he hoped. Because even if MangaGamer takes a loss localizing BokuTen, Overdrive will profit from it. (Not saying Bamboo doesn't care about the industry, but having BokuTen localized is hardly a selfless act.)

So basically, what fans want is unimportant compared to what the Japanese side thinks they should do. And if numbers tell them that releasing without porn is better for sales, that is what they will push for. Add to that adult payment processors being expansive, and that self publishing will get them more money for themselves, I expect more companies to try a Moenovel thing or at least go to steam like Debonusu is doing(no porn version, just steam).

There's no way they moved that quickly. Doddler is probably referencing Supipara being added to the agenda for a formal announcement.

Although yeah, it's probably going to get progressively easier to seek licenses from Japanese companies, as Japanese eroge sales decline and western sales continue to rise substantially. I know it's cool to hate on Steam but as a result of the Steam VNs being successful, MangaGamer has been getting more 18+ sales on their own site due to increased brand recognition and genre popularity. More and more Japanese developers of eroge of all types are gonna want to get on that bandwagon.

In all likelihood, between the success Key/Frontwing have had, the declining sales in Japan, and the rise of VNs on Steam, it's just about time for the floodgates to open on announcements now that the Western market is viable. It would not be a surprise if several major brands are announced between MG, Sekai, and Jast during the Summer convention season.

Just hope MangaGamer comes out ahead of Sekai Project, since anything big Sekai Project gets will go through a Kickstarter to fund a poor quality translation.

1) Luxury - It's under Nexton and was formerly known as Tactics, which MG already had a partnership with.
