Nice joke. I feel the people that know Japanese are still a constant percentage.

With visible sage gone, /jp/ has lost most of its superior ironic shitposting skills.

>> No.13521199

The core of /jp/ was formed by people who left /a/ during or shortly after the split because of various and mostly stupid reasons. Most of the original complaints probably aren't even relevant anymore, but the general hostility toward /a/ lingered on as things tend to do in /jp/.

I feel like I'm part of the "core of /jp/" but I came from /b/ not /a/. I clung to /b/ for far longer than most /jp/ers who came from "old /a/". For some reason I never liked /a/, and I still don't to this day. It has always just rubbed me wrong, and I can't quite put my finger on why.

I disliked /a/ before /jp/ existed and it became in with the /jp/ crowd to dislike /a/, so that rivalry isn't the cause. I watch lots of anime, so a difference of interests isn't the cause either. I used to think that it was that /a/nons weren't as dedicated to otaku culture as I am, but I think nowadays most /a/ users probably watch more total anime than I do.

>> No.13521303

>>13521298 (cont.)
To this day I'm not sure why I dislike /a/, but I do indeed dislike it, and I even disliked it back when most /jp/ers posted on it before the split and thought it was good.

My best guess is that it's something to do with how /a/ always had a fairly large subset of users who don't like moe or "pandering shit" or whatever they like to call it, along with the fact that I wanted a board that was united along that line. On /jp/, you either like cute 2D girls, or you ironically like cute 2D girls. There are no /jp/ers who don't fall into one of those two groups at the least, and often when posting here you can't tell the difference between them. So, /jp/ feels united, to me at least.

This post isn't meant to start any fight with anyone, I'm just posting my train of thought in case anybody's interested. And since the OP wanted to know about the relationship between /jp/ and /a/, there's my two cents.

It's just something about the style of /a/ posting that annoys me to no end.

The abundant green text, spoilers, ;_; usage, exaggerated overhyping (ITS HAPPENING, THIS IS THE BEST SHOW EVER etc.), reaction faces and formulaic meme posts (best key girl, etc).
Half the threads are glorified forum games like spamming lyrics of anison in ALLCAPS or "you are now the mc in the last anime you watched" or whatever.
Let's not even talk about waifu threads. Just read one and they speak for themselves. ( >>>/a/125590856 )

It's also painfully evident that most of the userbase is very lacking in knowledge. It's hard to discuss anything with people who cannot put new shows in perspective compared to what's aired before.

Sometimes I'm sure there's nice threads that I'd probably want to read because they about a show I like or manga I'm reading but then all of the above inevitably seeps in and I just want to leave

It's the same kind of posting pretty much everywhere: endless shit talking and hyping and people posturing and pretending to be smarter and better than others. But more than anything, it's all of this wrapped up in their super special, ultra-hilarious language of catchphrases and memes. It's why I can't take the word "waifu" seriously, because they don't use it seriously ("you're waifu a shit," "who's your ______ waifu?," "epic" waifu collages with tons of joke pics, etc.). I've had the displeasure of meeting /a/-frequenters in real life and they speak like they post. It was a very unpleasant experience.

I just want to take it easy. I feel /jp/ lacks that kind of pretension. And while we have our own board culture, it's at less obnoxious and if nothing else, the shitposting is a little more self aware.

>I've seen proper usage of "newfag" before.
That's because with time, new posters became older posters, and I don't think they ever picked up on the originally ironic usage of newfag/oldfag. The whole idea of it is stupid, because people can just read up on old 4chan culture to try to assimilate. Back then it was ED and now it's knowyourmeme, but apparently even you didn't know the source of "newfag," so folk history is somehow still meaningful.

You can shame without using memes is what I'm trying to say. I also think it's more effective. For example, if I try to shame with greentext, it just makes me look stupid. The triforce thing was another attempt to oust newfags. Instead, it resulted in explosive shitposting and people found out how to do it really quickly anyway.

>> No.13523956

>>13523884
Maybe if "crossies" stopped posting like retards this would be less of an issue. Instead, I see people trying to force other board posting styles as normative instead of simply trying to adapt to the board they're currently on. Native /jp/ers have a right to be upset.

>> No.13523970

>>13523938
I admit that I didn't browse ED article on "newfag" but I barely use knowyourmeme because I don't think "newfag" is a meme, it's just a label to call new people on 4chan.

And I use "newfag" and "lurk moar" because they are short, convenient and I don't have to type "you new people should stop posting and go browse the archives for 3 months before posting" every times I see newfags.

>> No.13524003

>>13523982
No, you use ``newfag'' because you want to fit in by using a commonly used slur you think the ``oldfags'' use. There are healthier venues than /jp/ if you want to belong to a group, you know.

That's why I'm addressing the irony of the term. What you think is what "newfags" think ("Only newfags say 'newfag'"). The term wasn't in any sort of usage until maybe 08 or 09, iirc. It sprang up really quickly. But if you're trying to use it to shame, it's inherently hypocritical. Start posting autistically or just tell them to leave instead.

Do you sincerely think you're trying to educate the ignorant masses on proper board etiquette by calling them crossie? All you're going to accomplish is produce a whole new load of shitters who unironically use the term to posture as oldfags, but as seen with >>13523538, this is already the case.

No. I'm trying to explain why you see the term so much. Also the term seems to be restricted mainly to /jp/. I don't particularly mind it since I don't care about people pretending to be oldfags or whatever. If it helps to reduce the posting styles that irritate me then so be it. Is this even true anymore? I'd wager the majority of posters here about during the early 2010s when /jp/ got it's reputation as the funni shitpost haven with 2hus, and the angrier, more cynical posters stopped giving a shit, along the more rule oriented atmosphere this board has had since 2012.
