Do they have Pastafarians in Akihabara?

>> No.1348093

They're "religious" but don't follow a particular religion. They just like having festivals and celebrations and stories to scare their kids with. They're a superstitious and ritualistic people.

>> No.1348106

They're not religious, but they do celebrate pretty much every religious holiday under the sun.

Sounds good to me. Skip the God bullshit and get right to the drinking and celebrating.

This chart always makes me embarrassed to be in the U.S.

And we have a full-blown 6000 year Earth creationist who might be our VP soon.

>> No.1348226

The problem with most assumptions of atheism is the further assumption that because some religions are wrong ALL religions are wrong. Out of the thousands of different religions on Earth only 1 can possibly be right. Also only 1 needs to be right for atheism and all it's tenets to be wrong.

Why is that?

But there are basic tenets of atheism, they are that there is no God, god cannot be proven, and that you can know there is no god. How are those not tenets?

>>1348280
I'm not going to get into further discussion because it's a troll thread but people are being awful polite. The reason only 1 religion can possibly be right is because they contradict one another. Even the idea that belief is all that's needed for salvation is directly in conflict with many religions that believe it's a wrong concept. They cannot all possibly be right together. In fact even the idea of 2 being mutually correct at once flies in the face of logic and is a great source of confusion in the world.

I'm apatheistic.

"god cannot be proven" is not athiesm, it's agnosticism (I think)

>> No.1348380

They're the casualfags of religion. Also, they have the best temples ever.

>>1348337
They aren't tenets because atheism isn't an institution. Atheists are people who happen to believe the same thing.

>> No.1348381

>>1348369
Kinda depends on the definition. Most people who admit that while God cannot be disproven, he is about as likely as an invisible pink unicorn who shat the universe into existence, still call themselves atheists. .00000~(insert a billion more zeroes here)00001% chance is close enough to 0% for a lot of people.

>> No.1348391

>>1348369

Yes, it is. From wiki:

Agnosticism (Greek: α- a-, without + γνώσις gnōsis, knowledge; after Gnosticism) is the philosophical view that the truth value of certain claims — particularly metaphysical claims regarding theology, afterlife or the existence of God, gods, deities, or even ultimate reality — is unknown or, depending on the form of agnosticism, inherently impossible to prove or disprove.

>>1348337

This "one only one religion can be right" bullshit is pretty dumb and you should take it to /r9k/ with the rest of the INTERNET INTELLECTUALS.

>> No.1348499

>>1348391
Also, depending on your interpretation, atheism and agnosticism are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

From wikipedia:
Atheism, as an explicit position, can be either the affirmation of the nonexistence of gods,[1] or the rejection of theism.[2] It is also[3] defined more broadly as synonymous with any form of nontheism, including the simple absence of belief in deities.
>rejection of theism.
>It is also defined more broadly as synonymous with any form of nontheism, including the simple absence of belief in deities.

I personally like that definition more than the "I believe that there is no such existence known as a god." Since atheism just means "without belief;" you may or may not reject the motion that there could possibly be a god, but you simply do not hold a belief in any god.

>> No.1348561

>>1348337
There are a few religions that recognize the possibility that other religions may be equally correct. Two or more of these could be correct.

>But there are basic tenets of atheism, they are that there is no God, god cannot be proven, and that you can know there is no god. How are those not tenets?

Atheism is the lack of belief in a god. That's it.

I don't have much of an interest in arguing with hardcore atheists, but I do find them pretty annoying. Especially the ones who call themselves "Brights". People aren't going to want to join your club when you have a name like that.

>> No.1348620

since we have a little misunderstanding on definition of athieism and agnostics, to quote Steven Colbert,

"Agnostics are atheists without balls."

I think that should clarify things
