You know, we don't need an "edition" of a vocaloid thread. Just upload a vocaloid pic and be done with it. It makes us look cringy on /jp/.

Anyways, now that Gakupo V4 is out, when do you guys estimate Gumi V4 will be out?

>> No.13451915

>>13451822
>cringy
>on /jp/

I actually like the "edition" stuff. It's just temporary, but it keeps the subject fresh, and creates a starting point for discussion. Variety is good.

>> No.13451968

>>13451822
That's a tough question. I guess it depends on how far along they were on her development when Gakupo was released. The problem is, Internet Co isn't nearly as big as Crypton, so there's a good chance that they don't try to develop two vocaloids at once. I'm guessing we'll be hearing something from them on Gumi in the next couple of months.

I might be a bit late to the party, but I just noticed that Lindsey Stirling (aka youtube violin girl) did a Senbonzakura cover:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-wEAeNcA_A

I liked the cover, but is this a sign of vocaloid becoming mainstream? More importantly, is it a good thing if it does?

>>13453022
Really? I thought it was surprisingly decent. There's better covers of this song out there, sure, but the arrangement was nice and she isn't a bad player (from what little experience I have with violin players). I agree there's some cringy factor to it though, she tries to be "quirky" and she just comes off as a tryhard.

Personally, I think this is the right kind of attention vocaloid should be getting from the mainstream media. People who like the song can look it up if they want, the rest can easily ignore it's related to vocaloid at all.

I think vocaloid still has some room for growth in the west, if only they's stop pushing the whole "Hey, it's a hologram singer! Japan is so weird!" angle, like that cringefest of a performance on Letterman or stuff like those "react" videos (for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHhluDhVtjU ) which will only attract the worst of the worst weaboos to the fandom.

>> No.13453946

>>13453811
David Letterman performance was good. I show that video to normies and they liked it.

The react videos are shit though, since you know they are meant to provoke a reaction so you're going to get bottom of the barrel diehard's defending that crap.

>> No.13454062

>>13453946
I thought it was well done, and the band was great, I just think the song they chose was really shitty. I also didn't like how they didn't explain anything about who/what Miku was and just put her in there without any context whatsoever. This is a comment on the YT video of the Letterman performance with almost 400 likes:

>I just don't get it. This stuff is as corporate as music could possibly get. And people eat it up. You can talk all the shit you want about Justin Beiber and all that other crap. But this is even worse. The artist is literally artificial. The music is created by the same guys who fart out every other pop hit. But it sells out huge venues. To see a computer program make noises that sound like words. I mean, come the fuck on!

That's the impression you leave people with. All this misunderstanding could easily be avoided if it was marketed better. Then again, it didn't show how the audience itself reacted so maybe I'm wrong about what the majority of people thought about it.

>> No.13454678

>>13451822
Lol what the hell are you talking about? Everything on /jp/ is cringy, this included. As someone who has pretty much seen every big Vocaloid forum around this is just as cringy as VO if not worse. On topic though, hasn't Gumi's VA retired? I remember reading that somewhere. I'm not sure if we are getting one at all.

>>13454062
That is the opinion that I was left with when I first got into Vocaloid to be honest and still have of Crypton. Which is sad, as Zero-G, Internet Co. and Yamaha generally attempt to come up with serious shit that can be used to make some nasty tracks. Look at the difference between Miku and Gumi English. You don't really need to look far for that information, even with all that 'exposure' very little has changed within the scene or out the scene in terms of who is using Vocaloid and who is following.

>>13454678
Damn, I'm going to be sad if there's no Gumi V4. Hopefully they can get her VA to come back.

I think Crypton's vocaloids are kinda hit or miss overall. Kagamine V1 and Miku English suck, but the Kagamine appends and the rest of Miku V3 are great, and Luka V2 was good for its time as well. They kind of have an excuse with Miku English though because the VA doesn't speak English (though they say she's learning). It might not be just because of that, but the fact that even Luka English V2 sounds clearer makes it more likely to be the case.

i'm gonna agree the new track is not too impressive. i was saying the same thing when burenai ai de came out and nobody else agreed, since yes, it is a decent track, but not spectacular. hard to put my finger on what was off. thought it was just a little blander than his previous works. easy dance was full of character. has a nice R&B style that's enjoyable even without that lewd video. burenai ai de has too many pauses to make it enjoyable without its video. news39's video is cute but the song is not catchy. not a hit in my opinion.

not saying i don't appreciate an artist who experiments with various concepts however. what it eventually comes down to is people like his style and tuning above all else. this is why he's so popular.

Luka V4X's Japanese doesn't seem to be much of an improvement, however I do believe her English is excellent for a Japanese vocaloid. I don't think any other vb could replace her as my favorite as I think she fulfills her niche of a deeper, huskier, breathier voice so well.

>> No.13495436

>>13494143
Not really. Unless you count Mike 'Tubular Bells' Oldfield as one of them. He was pretty big in the 70's. He only used V1 though, which is a shame as I'd take another of his albums over Porter Robinson any day.

>>13495084
They have, but that is common place in any industry (look at the WWE). Why chuck out gold when people are quite happily eating shit? I personally think Luka V4X is a decent improvement, I get V4's improved interface and two voicebanks, she sounds clear as a bell to me when I use her and much like GUMI V3, I can definitely achieve some fucked up shit with her given some time to do so. I would agree but I until I can rule out Lily getting a V4 and Miki's V4 I'm not sure.

I guess I'm stating what's obvious around here. I can definitely tell there is some potential from all the covers and demos people did, but I really haven't liked anything besides Sugar Vine and the RIP=RELEASE English demo. That said, I was very surprised by this cover:

Depends. There are a lot of people around here, who agree and are quite militant about it. I can appreciate that but I still buy them, there are a lot of better Vocaloids out there but I still have fun with Crypton's and can work around their flaws enough to use them seriously, so I can't complain.

I haven't really liked anything specifically so far in terms of other people's works, but I've used Luka and I enjoy her clarity. I'm working on a track with Miku and Luka English right now. She definitely makes up for 90% of Miku's babbly bits. I love RIP=Release, so much nostalgia I get from that track.

as much as i like recommending good music and promoting those producers through word of mouth, i feel like we might be helping too much. i got into vocaloid by downloading and listening to as much of it as possible. everyone should be doing this, especially now that vocaloid is more accessible than ever, especially through means piracy. there's wikis, databases, compilations, crossfades, channels, playlists, threads, radio stations, streams, and entire forums dedicated for discovering vocaloid music. we personally have done everything short of downloading music directly to newcomers' hard drives and pressing play for them. let them do some of the work. i say keep the chart simple.

I agree with keeping it simple, stuff like this can be a bit overwhelming in the beginning when you're new to vocaloid and still getting used to the whole concept and keep getting thousands of recommendations thrown in your face (speaking from experience). On the other hand, everyone loves recommending stuff they like and 90% of my favorite stuff I've found is from recommendations either from here, around the internet, RL friends, etc.

I think categorizing it better would definitely help, though. I don't know how we'd go about making an updated essentials chart, maybe if everyone nominated one or two albums at most, and could vote on a few albums at the same time, then just take like the top 50 or top 100 voted? It would definitely take some time though, and I don't think the number of people here is big enough to do something like this, so either over the course of a few threads or it would have to be posted elsewhere too to get more votes. It would be a lot of work, and I don't know if it's worth it just to make a better chart.

>> No.13561222

>>13560261
you also need an account to vote on vocadb. as i recall, you can't simply vote on an album without first adding it to your collection. this makes ratings even less reliable to go by.

>>13560749
we can at least separate albums by genre like other lists have done. that would make the essentials list less daunting to tackle. i'd like it if more people were able to access vocaloid in genres they prefer without much hassle.

Same here, hell, I still do, but I have no problem with coming up with up with a quick pointer list for those who see it is a bit of a daunting task trawling through thousands of tracks and get put off by that. I do think we need a genre filter though and a quality filter, otherwise there is no point, there are other vocaloid lists, one from MikuDB and another I have seen on here and both were a bit too expansive and pretty unappealing to use. I would like to offer something educated yet simple to use.

I was the same to an extent, it was like my goal in life at one point, I still consider her an idol of mine actually. Time has kind of moved on for me though, a few years of being shilled at and one really half-assed English Vocaloid has almost worn out her welcome on me. To be honest, I kind of miss those retarded feelings, I was motivated back then to do something in life.

I only know a few covers, since I don't really go looking for Piko stuff, maybe someone else knows some good original songs. This is probably the best use of Piko I've personally seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9-6_Wr6Dqc

This duet is also pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C9ocH_sNHg

And yeah, Piko doesn't really work with a high pitched tuning, since his voice provider is actually a guy, but people still insist on that for some reason... Might be because of the shota-ish design he has, and I'd say it probably changes the way people tune him for the worse.

DIVA-F and DIVA-F 2nd music video encodes are up. Because I saw no reason to be carrying 9.5GB + 27GB of these things around.

2nd has pretty bad aliasing. I did what I could. Where it was really bad the antialiasing basically didn't touch it (if there's no line left it has nothing to work with), but it calmed the medium stuff down to where it's not so distracting and did a pretty good job removing the light stuff.

I agree, I'm cool with the whole 'Character Vocals' as personifying a subject can make it more appealing to people but I believe they should focus less on the gimmicks in general.

Hey! I dunno how well you gentlemen take to recommendation requests, so I apologies in advance.

I mainly listen to vocaloid radio to get my fix, but from that I've gotten a few tracks that I really like. I fancy the "diva" sounding stuff: Dee and Eazy Dance I listen to every day, Late Night Sucre and 7days are very nice too. Just Be Friends is okay but not a commoner, though it is in the spectrum I like, so maybe I just haven't listened to it enough. Online Game Addicts, [Chaining Intention]Re:form and マッシュルームマザ are another two favorites.

On the more rock side of the spectrum, I enjoy Lost One's Weeping and some kyotn stuff, but not all of it. Recently I've been getting into Utsu-P's stuff, but it's kinda hit or miss since if it has too much screamo and not a good enough melody, I don't enjoy it. Mikusabbath, Anti Digitalizm, Shoegaze Life and Dope Disco are pretty good, everything else I listen to by mere curiosity.

Recommendations? Again, I listen mostly to vocaloid radio because I like the brief, random music format, and I'm mainly into diva-sounding stuff. Thank you!

I don't think this makes a difference either way, tbh. The only ones clamoring for a vocaloid anime are the 13 year old weaboos on youtube comments. It will never happen unless the japanese public wants it, and since they are the ones who actually produce content they can probably see why it would kill the whole concept.

Vocaloid and anime shouldn't mix unless the anime is based on a song/series of songs. Though I think it's pretty cool to see vocaloid related stuff as kind of "easter eggs" on anime (pic related).

I encoded Hatsune Miku wo Kaitemita and threw it up on my channel if any of you like SAI speedpaint.

It'll be up on U2 as soon as it's approved. AB when I get around to it.

Just found this:

That's a nice song! I've always liked a couple of AVTechNO!'s Luka songs, but I might have to take another look at his other stuff.

Btw, kemu used to do some work on VNs, but he uses a different name (Tsukamoto Kemu, or 塚本けむ). You can find some of his stuff on youtube, though I think his vocaloid songs are much better. I don't know if he's still producing music though.

>> No.13685239

>>13685156
won't deny that his musical style is evolving at an interesting pace. every album he puts out (under 'camel camellia' now) sounds different from the last. the problem is nothing he does is vocaloid anymore. it's brostep/clubstep with a lot of schranz/gabber influence.

i want cute miku vocals and jazzy drumming, not WUBWUPKAPTHHHBBBBT

Why exactly do people like this stuff? I mean, I like the music and all, but I can't stand the fucking vocals.

You definitely should. What I like about AVTechNO! is that I think he's versatile; he switches genres often but it still sounds like him. Check his Thank You Pack album for a large collection of his most popular. Crossfade:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXfp4SV3xKk

Also thanks for the info on kemu, I'll be hunting through his VN stuff I guess.
Speaking of kemu, anyone know if his light novels are up somewhere? Even raws would do.

>>13685239
I'm okay with dubstep and the like so I can't complain about the music, but I do think his old stuff had more charm.

>>13685294
It has charm for some people, I guess. Also, I think it fits better with some music genres, electronic would be an example. Blends in better than human voices. They can also be used as non-vocals too.

>> No.13685332

>>13685294
It must be personal thing, but I love how nonhuman they sound. Especially Miku's robotics voice that some producers use is really nice.
Furthermore Miku is really cute in general and that's also a reason why I like music with her.

About Miku? No there is none. Everything about her including personality is meant to be defined by fans/producers according to what they think that suits her.
The same thing apply to the rest of Crypton's Vocaloids and to probably to nearly all others.

I like both the music and the vocals. If you don't like how vocaloid sounds you could always look for utaite covers. I'll admit it's kind of an acquired taste though, it took me a while to appreciate the higher pitched ones like Miku and Rin. Some of the most popular Miku songs are kind of outdated and sound too shrill and squeaky, but the newer versions of Miku sound much better (especially the appends). I still like the lower pitched, more "normal" sounding ones like Gumi better than Miku, though, it's just a matter of personal taste.

Honestly a lot more depends on individual tuning than on the vocaloid/voicebank itself

Interesting, because the nico community likes the former song a lot more than the latter, and so do I. I wouldn't say any of n-buna's more well-known songs have "awful tuning," to be honest.

I don't really understand why people only listen to Vocaloid for the tuning, but to each their own I guess. To anyone who hates just the vocals, as another anon mentioned, listen to utaites.

I don't think the tuning in that song is particularly bad overall, either. That said, I highly prefer a well tuned vocaloid because the vocaloid is usually the most prominent part of the song (vocals in general usually are). And it's really annoying when you find a great song with some good instrumentals but the shitty tuning just kinda ruins it (doesn't stop me from listening to them most of the time, though).

I like the challenge of getting realistic and emotive vocals from the software. When it comes to others' music I listen to the whole package so I don't judge based on Vocals alone and I enjoy a lot of the voices on offer. However, since I started going to /mu/ I've been liking that part less .
