People who learned Japanese for your otaku interests, was it worth it?

Sure. I only learned to speak/hear it, though. Reading moon is a pain for me. But I'll get to it, eventually.

Well OP, whichever one you are, you only wanted opinions and not facts. So whether you believe me or not is up to either of you.

If you don't even know if you have the desire to start you won't have the resolve to see it to the end, so it is a moot point either way.

I learned it at RIT, I can read the opinions of those godless gooks more often and boy do I hate them more now.

If you have to ask that, you should find other interests.

I'm still doing Jap in highschool as part of my final school exams. The content is on par to jlpt level 3 or 4 and in my opinion it is worth it. So far I can understand around 20-70% of songs just from listening and with some time to study the lyrics, it is possible to understand the song entirely. Same goes with anime (slice of life has the best dialogue for language students) though reading vn's is a pain with all of that kanji.

Yes all the untranslated porn games (and other stuff too of coure) are flying in rainbow colours towards my open arms, I'm ready to accept them with my whole body and of course my heart.
I only learned to read/hear it, though. Producing moon is a pain for me and I don't see why I would need it, I'm not even talking a lot to people around me in my native language. But I'll get to it, eventually.

Yes.

Do you mainly just like anime and games? Don't learn japanese
Do you really like one or more of music, LNs, VNs, or other miscellaneous weeaboo bullshit along with anime and games? Learn japanese.

Also, be aware that it's a 3 year investment to get good, at the very least, so make sure you'll still be into stuff in 3 years

Yes - my main interest was music - only because I would have spent the time playing video games instead.

Though I'm still real shit at the language, I can't understand most songs without also reading the lyrics.

But definitely learn at least hiragana first before even attempting to learn anything else.
