Are we all really just killers deep down and some of us accidentally just let the mask slip?

Considering that humanity would have needed to be filled with cold blooded killers prior to creation of stable civilizations, which isn't very long ago in the scheme of things, it doesn't seem like a trait that we could have bred out of ourselves in such a short time.

It makes me wonder if people like her are the norm and we just suppress that instinct that our ancestors used to have to just kill the things/people that hurt us. Without the cultural conditioning and if we were just essentially feral then would all of us be so quick to kill a bully with a box cutter like she was?

It's easy for people to assume there's no reason for "being good" since the payoffs in "being bad" often are instantaneous, but being good is what makes us "human" in the sense we are not to be treated like just animals so long as we act civilized. It's a matter of nature versus nurture, and those of us who fail to be nurtured have to either live on the margins of society or just go back in the woods with the other animals.

She was released. The media let her be. She could never live a normal life in Japan ever again. No one would ever hire her. No one would ever marry her in public bringing all that shame despite drooling over her on the online communities, especially on 2chan.

She was, what, 21 or 23 when she was released. Her parernts most likely worked toward finding a stable permant job in the U.S. That way when she was released she could quietly move to the U.S without anyone knowing what she had done in Japan. She probably learned English while imprissoned too.

Actually researchers found out that the beginning of civilization started when our testosterone levels lowered to a certain degree. Yes and no.

I think anyone could be a killer under the right circumstances, and that the idea that everyone who does these things is some "monster" different from us is mostly a myth, but I think there is still a pretty strong compulsion against murder. It takes a pretty strong drive to get past this, though some of it will obviously vary from person to person. I imagine some are more inclined to it than others, but I don't think you need to be some emotionless sociopath to kill either.
