Considering Canada's obscenity laws it could pretty much be anything, last week I think he was saying how it reads more like a list of features for Euphoria, so I imagine he tried to avoid anything that actually was illegal according to them. Most likely for CP I imagine though, I doubt they played through the eroge but just looked at the cover and googled it or something. Problem is, Doddler IS an amazing programmer. I can program stuff in Unity if necessary (haven't used Unity too much but I've been coding since I was little (I also majored in Software Engineering in college but it didn't teach me much)), but Doddler once showed me an early version of the Unity VN engine he was working on and it blew my mind. I know at least I can't make something like that, and in my experience I seem to be better than the average programmer. I believe it varies state to state in the US, but overall the odds seem to be in your favor given that there's companies that literally import loliholes for resale in murrikkka and there's also a handful of people that have literally imported copies of comic LO into the country.

I dunno if I'd be brave enough to do either of the above without taking a long hard look at state laws, but just general eroge or stuff with safe covers I wouldn't really give a second thought to.

Actually it wouldn't, because the world would be destroyed just hours after Karin became blind and deaf, relieving her from her misery. Because someone worked to make that happen. No, that's bullshit the fans made up to justify the show's shitty ending. The actual episode implies no such thing, it just makes Yuuna go through a mysterious bullshit condition for extra drama which is cured through sheer optimism. Fans took it all as really symbolic and thought up far-fetched interpretations to make the ending (written by the same folks who just earlier in the episode let Yuuna defeat the massive monster army even a god can't defeat in hundreds of years with a single punch infused with the power of friendship and optimism) somehow make sense.

I think it's a far more reasonable assumption that the latter half of the episode is just as retarded as the first half, rather than it being totally deep and symbolic.

Now, if some huge wave of kickstarters by translation companies looking to bring major works to the west suddenly happens, I'll concede Sekai Project had an influence. As of right now, though, they've barely had any time to influence anything, they've only had games released for a year now.

>In about a month, she did more than she had accomplished in a year and a half, and then immediately released it without anybody doing any editing or QC on it.
Once more, bullshit misinformation. Her blog is right fucking there and it contains clear information on the project's progress. In June, after sitting on the project for a long time, she finished translating common route:
>The AIR Common route is now 100% translated!
>“What does this mean!?” I hear you all cry. Why, it means I’ve finally started translating AIR myself! The stats page will now be updated regularly (i.e. whenever I finish a file), and I’ll be tweaking this blog to give it a project page and whatnot later in the week. I’m doing Minagi’s route next, and in an ideal world I’ll release a partial after all of Dream is translated. Here’s hoping everything goes well! My health’s been in good shape recently, and I’ve now finished university forever, so until October I should be free to work on it every day.

Then in August, the other group popped up and drama ensued. A couple days later, Minagi route reached 100%. Early September, Kano route was completed. Half a year later, the patch was finally released (parts translated since September were Misuzu route and Air route by Sheeta, and Summer by Ixrec).

Let's look at the timeline again.
>August 2012 - Edgar drops out, Sheeta says she's taking it over
>June 2013 - Sheeta has finished the common route. 15% done in 10 months. She then turns it over to Ixrec to 'help out,' he does another 25%.
>July 2013 - Other group releases their patch. Sheeta has a temper tantrum
>December 2013 - Translation finishes.

So to recap, on her own before the other patch released, Sheeta was translating at about 1.5% a month. After their patch was released, her project, thanks to Ixrec, was at about 60% done. She then proceeded to finish it in the next 5 months, translating more than 5 times faster than she had before.

So which is? Was she a lazy cunt for not putting in any time and effort before the other group released their patch, or is she a lazy cunt for obviously cribbing from their work?

The other reason is that because the fan TL scene is so starved for translators and regular content of quality VNs that people would rather see two translators translate different things so that work isn't going to waste as such, which is again only a problem because people are willing to accept subpar translation quality like above.

Beyond the whole e-penis thing, the Air project is a bit special.

The 'original' Air project started all the way back in 2004 apparently (pre-2008 is just a matter of what I've heard, only joined the community in 2008). It didn't work out and was passed to a different translation group. That didn't work out either and by 2008 the project was on TLWiki, where a lot of people of varying competence (from good translators to literal machine translations) contributed to it. However, that never reached completion either, and the project was a huge mess at that point (going through two groups AND receiving the early TLWiki treatment). Still, it went through a further two groups (which both did some stuff but never got far enough for a release). The game was almost completely translated at this point, but it was a huge mess.

In that situation, Edger started translating Air from scratch because the old translation was deemed unsalvageable. Edger got a life and quit translating, and the project was passed to Sheeta. This project came to be known as 'project 2'. Edger made good progress and Sheeta made some progress, but Sheeta being Sheeta, it was inconsistent and slow.

Right as Sheeta was starting to make good progress, out of nowhere Gao Gao translations popped up with the announcement they're almost ready to release a beta translation patch for Air based on the 'original' Air project that's been worked on by so many groups. This is 'project 1'. As 'project 2' was started entirely because the 'original' project was deemed unsalvageable, Sheeta lost her shit at suddenly having a group working with that base beating her to releasing a full Air patch.

That's what happened and why Sheeta lost her shit, and it's why >>13252939's slander is such bullshit. Of all the things Sheeta would possibly do, stealing from the 'original' project or its derivative is not one of them. She could've done that AGES ago, but the entire reason for 'project 2' was to avoid that.

The number was asspulled with no basics and the anon is mad when somebody says his logic is shit. And even with 30% per year, it would be closer to 3,5 years (3 years 4 months to reach 100%) and if he had any idea how translating a game works, reaching 100% or translation doesn't make everything magically ready.

>Why would you assume I thought 30% was fine when I just had said that 31% was also shit? I ask you again, are you retarded?
You said "less than 30%" so everything above 30% is fine. Or are you making an arbitrary number again? So how much per year is good? 33%? 43%? 50,7%?

Higurashi is a doujin game with lots of music contributions by different artists, each one owning the rights to their own songs, meaning if you want to get the full soundtrack you need to hunt down all the artists and make individual deals with each of them.

I'm more interested in the other surprise (or two) that they claim. There's a lot of possibilities there.

Taking stock of what everyone's working on, the only ones with semi-free schedules for a big title in the next few months are Cafe and Maria. I imagine Maria will probably do flowers, and that will probably be announced at AX. Perhaps we'll see that myth exchange announced for real?

It also seems like it might be a good time to announce their next set of lilith games, which where, even if all translators are occupied, there's no reason they couldn't stop and bang out in a month or two. Of course, it's also been nearly a whole year since we've seen a softhouse seal title, so that's also a possibility. And of course, morningstar/appetite shit.

There's also this thing that they've silently picked up for publishing https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ecchi-mery-and-the-perils-of-the-cosmic-shrine#activity

>> No.13268772

>>13268748

Oh, and also, if it's not new game announcements, I suppose it could also be new hardcopies. Cartagra and eden would seem like safe bets if that were to be the case.

Also, extrapolating this information towards the future, I believe DS55 will likely be near enough to done with bokuten that they might announce his next project at Otakon or AX. Beyond that though, I think most of the mangagamer machine is booked up on big titles.

>> No.13269099

>>13268748
My guess is that the "surprises" will be a nukige announcement or two and the higurashi music thing. They'll definitely save the big announcements for AX. (any new licenses, Flowers, Tsuriotsu, etc)

I wonder if Cafe is actually going to finish Aoire Rinne after euphoria or if that one will be in limbo forever.

>During their Anime Boston panel earlier today, international visual novel publisher MangaGamer announced that they will be offering a more definitive edition of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni on Steam. Rather than just release the eight arcs (4x Question and 4x Answer) they have previously published, they have acquired Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou, which contains: all four question arcs, all four answer arcs, all three arcs of Higurashi Rei, the original concept story Hinamizawa Teiryuujyo, Higurashi Outbreak and the Kamikanshi Chapter. All fourteen chapters will be released individually via Steam – although it now seems like an extra year or two may have been added to the localization process.
>This acquisition also means that a number of new features will avail themselves to players. >These include:
>Options to switch between the new sprites and the old
>New Higurashi Hou sprites will also be redone in the new sprite style
>The BGM that were replaced in the initial release will be restored to the original versions
>Options to switch between playing in English and Japanese on-the-fly

Doesn't splitting Higurashi into 14 individual releases sound like a terrible idea? Do you think the hype is still gonna be there when they get to the 7th, 8th, 9th etc etc release? I can just imagine sales going way down.

>Doesn't splitting Higurashi into 14 individual releases sound like a terrible idea?
I don't know. Higurashi is very long so if MG were to release all of the series in a single package we wouldn't see its release in a very long time.
In regards to Higurashi Rei and Hou I think it'd be better to release that additional content in a single package since they're way shorter than the original series.

On another note, I've seen some people talk about Higurashi Sui that will have 19 chapters ported from the other console ports. What kind of content is that? Did Ryukishi even work on them?

>> No.13271812

>>13271737
On the other hand your average Steam user rarely buys anything that's over $10, so it might work. A lot more people will purchase a cheap entry point than would drop a significant amount of cash for one or two more expensive packages. The greater initial sales might be enough to make up for any drop off in sales for later releases in the series, which will certainly happen.

And I suspect many people who buy the first release will keep buying them for completion's sake, even if they haven't gotten around to reading any of them. Valve have successfully developed a metagame with Steam where buying games becomes its own game.

>> No.13272786

>>13271812
This is true, having a cheap chapter 1 makes the barrier to entry very low and could get a lot more people buying the series.

The problem being that there is actual market attrition when it comes to these things. A lot of the new fans may be pleasantly surprised but stop caring about the series a couple years from now. It may not be too bad if they're able to constantly pepper in new releases, but if it takes more than six months for each chapter, well, I shouldn't have to tell you how that will go. Even with the same customer base with the same tastes encountering the same products, the more the releases are spaced out, the less they'll sell. Even though MG is insisting that future chapters will go quicker, Watanagashi is going slow as balls right now. MG really needs a translator who can crank out a chapter every 3 or so months without compromising on quality. It sounds possible but may not be feasible in practice.

>> No.13273044

>>13272786
>Watanagashi is going slow as balls right now
As far as I know, the first translator for the new version was fired for incompetency and all his translation was scrapped. Then the new translation had to be modified in certain patterns of speech or the way the characters address each other (don't remember anymore) not to mention technical work as well as the time to work out licensing details.

I'm sure the other chapters will take way less time to be released given that all issues have apparently been resolved.
