People invest 60 hours reading this VN, and when you reach the last route your brain refuses to believe that it's shit.
Also you feel the need to brag online how it's the best and you got to read it.
But the truth is that it's even worse than Fate, with the absolute worst heroine.
It has its moments, but those are all you're ever gonna see mentioned about it. The rest of the route, like 95% of it, is pure drivel.

UBW route

Also sickly girl dies (secret loli oneechan) because you've got to do that, except she is MURDERED by BBEG and the BBEG is then defeated by the MC who has the one impractical special power that can defeat near invincible BBEG because that's what you do in shounen

And then we have the Heaven's Feel route

Heaven's Feel is clearly the more sophisticated, superior story here.

The reason why HF is the best is because it explains the most amount of lore, and has the better fights. All the deep lore is in HF.

Fate was an introduction, you get to learn about servants, magic circuits, and noble phantasm. The very basics of the universe and no more. There are some key concepts like the throne of hero's and saber's status as a living servant that is perpetually on the brink of death.

UBW does not explore any new concepts, the only reason people even like it, is because of the twist end, Shiro = Archer, and Rin. Aside from that it has the least amount of fight scenes that mattered, and least amount of lore exploration. Go reread UBW, it's boring as shit the second time around, but it is great the first time around.

Heaven's Feel starts going into the corruption of the holy grail, the past holy grail wars, the ancient magi families, Zelretch and his Gem Sword, The Second Magic, True Assassin, developed kotomine in to likable character, ties up the loose ends with illya, finally explains what is going on with Shiro's body, and many other concepts. People love UBW because of Archer memes and Gay for Archer fanboyism, the irony is archer most likely is a product of the events of Heaven's Feel. Nine Lives Blades Work > UBW. Archer him self could not be berserker with UBW, but shiro killed berzerker with NLBW.

It has nothing to do with who fucked who, or who was the heroine. HF fans love it for the lore, not for the girls. However, it did have the most Illya so there is that.

What? Shiro was never alone in UBW. All Shiro did was depend on Saber and Rin, in UBW.If it was not for Rin doing a mana exchange he would not even have been able to use UBW. The only real fight Shiro has is vs Gilgamesh, a servant that he hard counters.

As for ideology shifting, Shiro is the exact same person at the beginning of UBW that he is at the end of UBW. Sure he is a bit more powerful but nothing about his personality changed. The whole point about the story is EXACTLY that, Shiro refused to change even though archer was telling him his path is wrong. UBW was the worst in character development because of this, it was story about refusing change and being "your self", even if your ideologies are fake and belong to a long dead man that regretted his entire life and caused the death of everyone he ever loved.

Shit Fate has better character development, Saber even learned to let the grail go.

Shiro wins the holy grail war if we are to believe kotomine, It's also implied kotomine will help him. Also, Nasu confirmed that of all the ends Mind of Steel is probably the one where Shiro becomes Archer, although nothing is 100% confirmed. At that point, shiro has all the tools he needed to win the whole grail war.

I honestly don't mind that Mind of Steel ended abruptly. It's as if everything after that didn't matter, because it was already set in stone. Playing through the VN is about deciding what Shirou's going to do at certain steps, but now everything has been decided. It's just a matter of following through on the motions.

(Also, leaving it up to my imagination how Shirou pulls it off is far better than explicitly showing me the asspulls.)
