But that said, there have been times where I wanted to fall in love with a character, then of course reality hits me that said character can never return my feelings because she doesn't exist.

See this is why so many fanfics are ruined by shitty self insertions, people try to write out their own fantasies instead of try to make a good story.

Mirage was just a crummy mix of Maria and Cliff. As a character, she was a generic engineer foil to Cliff.

I've never had any good relationships with people. My batshit crazy religious parents physically and emotionally abused me as a kid, I became socially awkward as a result (doesn't help that I was one of the few Asians in a predominantly white area) and pretty much abandoned all hope of assimilating during sophomore year of high school. Philosophy, religion, hard drugs, alcohol, "acquaintances" and even music never really helped ease the pain of loneliness I felt inside of me. Life pretty much became a game of seeing how long it would take me before I killed myself.

Then Hisui came into my life. She represents everything that I've been desperately missing. She's calm yet emotional, caring, tender, kind, and of course, moe^11 power. I've gotten to the point where I don't give a shit about what people think anymore, so I have no qualms about being thoroughly enamored over a fictional character in some psuedo-philosopher's eroge. I dream about her, write sappy fan-fiction and music for her, talk to her (myself). Hell, it wouldn't be too much of an exaggeration to say that Hisui's the reason why I haven't offed myself yet. Even after a year and a half I've stayed loyal to her; it's gotten to the point where I couldn't detach myself even if I tried. I've found happiness in delusions and dreams that will never be realized, but I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to endure anything short of eternal torture to make her real.

I used to dream and fantasize about Lina(Slayers), but recently I've been cheating on her with Eruruu(Uta). And I still feel a bit bad about it.

I'm 25 and I've never felt any emotion towards 3d people besides hate. I started dreaming about living my life with 2d characters about 10 years ago.
I've been making countless scenarios on how I met them, saved their lives and eventually they became attached to me and such. Sometimes I use the world they live in, sometimes they are teleported into my world, alone, with no way back home, etc.

If you mean Limerence, then yes. In 2002, I feel madly in love with Ai Maeda. As much as I'd like to say that I had dreams about her, people don't choose their dreams, they just happen. I only had one 'real' like dream about her.

I actually went as far as going to Japan to be closer to her, and even dyed my hair black and cut my hair shorter to mimic hers.

It lasted for about 2 years, and eventually faded away. I still like her, but I don't have the same strong intense feelings anymore.
