With the global economic slow down...I think I need to start thinking about the future. I can't just piss away my time and money anymore. So I've decided to head to Gensokyo and work there for about 2 years. I hear they haven't been hit by the surge in oil prices. What's the cost of living in Gensokyo? Can I make money from working there? Or am I gonna waste it all staying alive? I looked through some ads and some place called Scarlet Devil Mansion needs a butler or some shit like that. Wish me luck /jp/

I've been living in Gensokyo for about 5 years, came here with a work visa, and eventually decided to apply for citizenship. I manage a general store in the human village. There are plenty of vacant houses, just take your pick and move in. Some need a bit of work, but nothing past basic carpentry.

Also, bring a lantern. You'll see why.

Fuck you foreigners coming into Gensokyo taking our jobs. The fucking door guard at this mansion got fired because some 50 humans would do it for cheaper. Fuck you humans...I'm voting for the Youkai Reform League and we're gonna deport all your asses.

I wouldn't advise working at the Scarlet Devil Mansion, I barely got out of there alive.While you'll get a decent bed and two meals a day you won't get paid - they don't have any reason to pay you when you'll never leave.

Head maid's also a bitch. She can act pretty friendly at times, but god save you if you do anything wrong. She'll somehow manage to clean up after you in a flash, but you'll be sleeping outside for the night.

If you do end up working there, do what you're told and work where you're told to work. For the love of god do not go down the basement.

Personally, I'd suggest working at Eientei. The mistress's ability to manipulate eternity means you'll never get old. Plus, you get a free medical plan and the rabbits are pretty active during spring, if you know what I mean.

My family moved here in 1925. It's really hard to find work outside the human village, but if you can it's really worth it. I took an internship with a woman in the forest of magic and now I basically work for myself as a creative redistribution of wealth specialist. If you get that job at SDM, we'll probably be seeing a lot of each other.

There isn't a university as such. If you're lucky, you may be able to find someone willing to teach you a few things though.

I'd try and get into the Scarlet Devil Mansion's library at some point. If you ask the head maid nicely, she may grant you access for a period of time. She's usually out on a Monday and Thursday doing her shopping trips, so you may bump into her.
