I'm taking Japanese at the JC this semester, and I'm having some trouble learning Hiragana. Anyone have any good (free is good as well) games I could play a few times a day to help learn them?

>> No.1307709

Download Anki; download a kana pack. Keep playing until you recognize them.

http://ichi2.net/anki/

Also, write each of them 1000 times.

Here is the page with hiragana/katakana data for Anki; there are also sets for the kanji.

Just write them out a lot and use flash cards.

Schools only been back for, what, two weeks now? Give the kid a break; you didn't learn the hiragana that quickly.

>>1307746
no, I really did. I learned Hiragana and Katakana in about a week and a half total. 2 words. Rosetta Stone. Books and dictionaries are only good for vocabulary. Use Rosetta Stone for learning characters and it's also pretty good for grammar. Write the characters as often as you can, even if it's just doodling on your papers, that helped me a lot. Good luck btw OP. I stopped studying for about 3 months now. I learned Hiragana and Katakana and some very basic Kanji and Grammar then gave up... I'll probably pick it up later, though.

Rosetta Stone is shit, there's plenty of better resources online, especially if you're just looking to learn the kana.

That's what you get for using Rosetta Stone.

OP, stay away from that shit, there are better programs.

Goddamn people! How dare they ask us to help him learn Japanese! If he didn't pop out of the womb speaking japanese fluently then they need to be taken out and shot!

>> No.1308310

Just write them again and again while chanting them to yourself like a mantra. Do a row of different ones so you don't repeat the same character again and again.

Kinetic memory is your best friend, so use a sharp pencil or something that gives some resistance and allows you to differentiate stop/hook/release easily.

PAY ATTENTION TO STROKE ORDER/DIRECTION as this will make learning kanji later much easier.

Remember, writing is a physical action, and requires physical skills, you'll learn them quickly enough if you're not careless and enjoy doing it.

Hiragana and katakana are easy stuff. Just read, repeat, write, memorize in a few straight shots. If you can't do that much, the kanji will fuck you.

ZOMG WTF...BAWWWWWWWWWWWW I can't lrn2hiragana.

If you're having trouble w/ hiragana, wait till you get to the 1945 kanji you're supposed to know to actually function in their society. Now, choke yourself.

Hiragana > OP. LOL

Come back in 2 weeks, if you don't have both hiragana and katakana down pat, quit Japanese.

I'm not trolling, I'm dead srs. It should take no one more than that to get it.

OP, it seems from some of the responses I wasn't completely clear in my post. First of all I've been taking the class about two weeks. (One class a week for three hours.) I know a few Hiragana, but I'm mostly looking for something to streamline the learning process.

SRJC? Huhh, then you're not from my class. I thought I know you because our teacher gave us a bunch of hiraganas to learn and the timing of the thread was so perfect.
I had a very bad experience today with a weaboo idiot in my japanese class. Seriously, half of the class talked about anime the whole time.

Anyway, I'm using this flash to memorize the characters: http://www.mediafire.com/?azf2wpgxmsb
Hope it helps.

I'm playing Knuckles in China Land (Google it);
From a gaming perspective it's really quite terrible, but it suffices to trick my brain into believing that I'm playing games instead of studying.
Pic related.

Sucks for you, my class seems to be actually interested in learning the language and culture with surprisingly few anime references, though there are occasionally questioned inspired by things they heard in anime.
