Check the archive if you really want to read them, but tldr its because of the Japanese work environment and infrastructure vs Western work environment and infrastructure. Tokyo etc is alot more centered around using public transport (trains) and walking, while in the US train systems are still popular in places such as NY, but often require less walking than in Japan.
Also, playing games in public in the west is seen as childish while in Japan it's frowned upon by some but accepted by plenty.

The way I see it, IIDX is like the Guitar Hero and Keyboardmania is like the Rocksmith. They both simulate the same instrument and both have their own appeals, but Rocksmith isn't really a "game" in the same sense and it doesn't seem like it would fit as well in an arcade.

It's not an arcadey simplified sim of the instrument, it's actually the instrument.

I never grew out of it because it was never a thing. I don't like much of the older songs, things like hip hop, funk or whatever they have is not my thing. The 5-6 last releases had the best tracklists (Lincle being the best) and have songs that are more well suited to IIDX, like hardcore, trance, speedcore, and the many genres that "keyboard/piano heavy tracks" represent.

Using other people's scores was pretty excellent tool for identifying which scores I needed to improve. I always chose rivals that were much worse than me, but still beating me on a dozen or so songs, swapping them out frequently as I went along.

Then the game would probably be shittier due to giving no objective progress feedback. I'd maybe have a handful more FCs than I do now.


Don't get me wrong. There were plenty of songs I just enjoyed playing and doing well on, and I worked on improving scores without any external information when all I had was CS, but don't dismiss the way other people use the tools in the game.

You're missing out on a lot of content/gameplay if you play the game offline. I don't really see the point in it. Might as well play LR2 or KSM. At least there, you can target your own best scores.

I'm serious. At least for LR2, I don't play KSM. I don't consider LR2 a IIDX simulator.

If you're going to to PSun stuff offline, there's no point in playing it. Once you start hitting walls, you will need the ability to keep your clears and scores. Also, playing offline means you have to set your settings every credit.

Seeing progress is one of the reasons why I play rhythm games

IIDX starts at 11s. Not many walls left. It's all about scoring now. Pretty easy to remember your important scores and clears by now.

You have to set it once per bootup if you're playing premium free. It takes literally like five seconds.

I find offline play relevant and useful for people who just want to progress and get up to a certain point before bothering with accounts, scores, rivals and all that. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't care for other people scores, but I care about my own progression. I'm not going to memorize every EX Score and Clear Status I have on a song. What's the point in full combos or ex-hard attempts if they aren't even saved.

There are different ways to play the game, but I find the most fun when there's an incentive in doing it. When clearing songs, I'm awarded with clear lamps and DJP. I like to clear new songs and fill up my folder. I have fun in discovering new music. The clear lamp is a good marker to know that I have played it before. I probably wouldn't be as good as I am now without score tracking.

Sometimes I forget that there are people out there who don't care about progression and just enjoys the game on a basic level.

Getting online isn't difficult and I'm willing to help.

So i've been playing jubeat a lot recently, and I'm getting close to EXC on a few basic charts... Is it worth it to try and get them? My only 99xxxx is on GAIA, which would be a cool first EXC, but I could also go for STULTI as well, which is my favorite song but I have 975xxx right now.

iidx green number is roughly
175000 / (bpm * hispeed * 1000 / (1000 - white number))
plus or minus 1 or 2 (error seems to be larger the lower the hispeed)
since tricoro the iidx hispeed multipliers are exactly what they say they are, but i have no idea what lr2's hispeed values mean

sidenote: in physical terms the green number is 10x the amount of frames a note is visible, so at 300 each note is visible for half a second
