Hi /jp/

I was reading a short story in The Elephant Vanishes by Haruki Murakami and you guys seemed like the best place to ask: Is there any significance, particularly with envy, to the color green in japanese culture?

Thanks. In the story a woman is at home when a little green monster comes from out of the ground in her garden. The monster is described as having human eyes with a nose like a whip and scales all over its body. He breaks into the woman's house and proposes marriage to her; she communicates her disgust and confusion telepathically.

She begins imagining torturing him, peeling his scales off with pliers, jabbing his eyes with a soldering iron, etc. Her thoughts cause the monster's scales to turn a purple color. Through thoughts of torturing him he eventually disappears.

tl;dr READ THE ELEPHANT VANISHES BY HARUKI MURAKAMI. How ironic that my tl;dr statement should involve reading a large collection of short stories.
