A friend of mine who took music theory actually had his professor point out that his original compositions were "video-game like" and he admitted that they were.

Its odd, though, that they point out those qualities like it is a mediocre/bad quality to have with your music. Its really not, its just a different formatting for music, more based around looping than a full song with intense amounts of progression.

Depends on what you mean by learn piano.

If you're just looking to learn a few select pieces and don't care much for theory check out Synthesia. It's probably the most straight forward way to learn a song.

If on the other hand you want to play properly you'll want to learn the basics of music theory and proper techniques (finger placement and hand movements). I'm sure you can find tons of good guides online. If motivation is an issue attending a music class can help.

Regardless of the method start with very easy and short songs and go from there. Be ready to spend at least an hour everyday for a few months in order to see improvement.

Also invest in a full size (88 keys) digital piano with weighted keys. You can probably get a decent used one for ~200$ depending on where you live.

Word of advice: Hide your power level unless asked to.
My absolute best music instructor for trumpet had a massive hard on for Kamen Rider and Kikaida of all things. Granted, he was half Japanese, so that helped.
