4 out of the top 5 J-drama actors on jdorama.com are handsome young males. Taking this into consideration, the western j-drama audience must either be a bunch of faggots, bunch of females, or both.

Your opinion?

What do you think?

who is it that watches more soaps and dramas (which revolve around romance)

what an intriguing question

>> No.1296072

3D is pig, anime is superior to this drama crap.

I've seen 6 dramas so far, and none of them had romance as a main theme.

>>1296072
Enjoy your shitty Korean animation, subpar scrip writing, and anime number 1000 that either rips off of Azumanga Daioh or Gundam.

NERD

No, dramas are shit.

Animation is better, we've been through this so many times, Western live action is so much better it isn't even funny.

Hmmm, should I watch the likes of Rome, 24, Lost, The Wire or some shitty J-Drama?

I will.

Hmm...should I watch never ending Lost with it's shitty scripts getting written on a weekly basis like Code Geass, or should I watch the emotional roller coaster and unique drama that is Tiger & Dragon?

Watch House instead.

>never ending

Having a fixed amount of series (6) != 'never ending'.

And it's enjoyable, and fun, and yes, as much as you hate to admit it - High budget DOES matter these days. I'm sick of the poor production values of J-Dramas for a start.

House? I liked it better when it was called "Medical show number 10435345 because America can't produce anything besides medical, crime and romance shows"

I think you misunderstand who we are here at /jp/. We may have evolved beyond those with the low power levels over at /a/, but we still love and enjoy anime, pretending that J-Dramas are somehow superior to their western counterparts is sheer delusion, just like when /co/ says western cartoons are superior to Japanese ones.

The problem with American shows is that they have no end! If a show gets higher ratings they drag out the plot for a few more seasons like they did with Lost and Prison Break, if it gets low ratings even though it's good (Arrested development, Dead Like Me) it get's cancelled.

You don't have that problem in Japan, as they make 9-12 episodes series only that have a finished script long before they're filming it.

Go watch Tiger & Dragon or Kisarazu Cat's Eyes, and try to tell me those shows aren't better than the never ending high budget shows of America.

They did the same thing with 24. The first season is one of my favorite things ever, but all the following seasons were just ridiculous.

Arrested Development's cancellation still pisses me off. An intelligent comedy comes around that's actually funny without being pretentious and Fox goes and kills it.

And you're the faggot than honestly believes Japanese live action is better than western. I mean, honestly, why LIE to yourself to that extent? It isn't better, it's never been better.

Forgive me for wanting shows that have high production values.

The acting and presentation in J-dramas are usually "shit." But that's just how they are. The humor in most of them is semi-sarcastic in that it ties in with the purposefully "bad" acting (you guys probably don't notice that though if you don't speak Japanese). I've never been able to be interested in a single American TV show or series like Heroes or House, but I've enjoyed some Japanese dramas.

It all comes down to the fact that you can't make fun of things or call them shit when you can only understand the surface.

Call me a faggot all you want, I fucking loved Nobuta wo Produce. Definitely my favorite of all the movies, dramas, shows, etc, I have ever watched. I'd recommend it to any other "faggots" (aka the type of guy who can cry at a movie).

One question, why is the acting in them SO bad? I mean, this is a country of 120 million people we're talking about here, even in the UK we have some decent actors for the few odd series the BBC produces.

>> No.1296229

>>1296213
It's a different approach to acting. They could try to do what the western world was doing but the lulz and real emotions that they often contain would probably be gone. Like how they have cheesy captions and title fonts for TV-shows.

>> No.1296230

>>1296213
they also can't act in movies

they don't have much of an industry and the budgets are sickeningly low

The past 5 years only two american shows have been on par with the absolotyu best J-drama shows: Arrested Development, and Monk.

95% of US shows are generic lawyer/medicine /romance dramas with their usual self-important characters that think their fucking love triangles and "OH, I'M SO PRETTY, RICH AND SUCCESSFUL, BUT STILL NOT HAPPY"-characters are even remotely interesting.

Japanese dramas may have lower budgets, but their way more humane and true.
