The one where they travelled to Edo-period Japan was really fascinating.

I like Endo, he's usually pretty scandalous and entertaining.

Hell yes. I've honestly been practicing Japanese for nigh-on two years purely for the possibility that I could just watch without subtitles. But I think it's a bust again this year. They were rocking it so hard last year.
I don't think they have that turbo translator they had last year on-board. Forgot his name, but he sped through those last few parts like a mad-man.

I think they might also be using some new system they aren't used to in general, which seemingly caused them problems, especially with the RAWs.

I remember them saying it would be funny if there was a Hamada only game.
I'd... yes, just yes.
Or maybe bring back the style of the batsu games actually being batsu games, a punishment for losing.
No teams, just make them do some task, losers get in punishment game, winner controls aspects of it. (and even come in to it)
That sort of stuff would be fun and breathe new life in to it, I think.

I think they just need to do new things. I love the "open the drawers" game, but the trip to the location, and the punishment (it's been the baton for all times except one). The baton is stale and boring. The blowdarts were awesome. I just wish there were more times where they were alone, like at that spa. It's much more fun when they are shown things that makes them laugh, instead of doing things to them, or making them do things, to make them laugh.

Why? Does he open it later? I noticed this 2 years ago that lot of times they cut so much shit, and yet forgot so many things in, so it feels half assed. I always wondered, just how much of it could be scripted, like the drawer gags could fall flat if done in a different order.

But seriously, it kinda sucks that I've become so accustomed to Gaki that I can list out skits that they would recycle on the special. I think the first time they opened drawers was back in the Police episode and they actually opened every drawer, I always have the feeling that they added more stuff to the drawers, its just that they never explore it.

Tanaka even outright says he's sick and tired of getting Thai Kicked every year

But I think a good change of pace is maybe do a laboratory next year where they separate the cast into two separate rooms for the first 3 hours where they could see each other from afar and pull pranks, buttons and stuff that would fuck with the opposing room.

There's a clearly defined format they follow now that likely is done simply because of stable ratings and money that they don't want to alter. If they were still open to playing around then the prison batsu could have had so much more.

The five could have been arrested at the start and taken in a prison bus that has celebrities and whatnot on it, followed by an inspection on arrival done in a really humiliating yet hilarious fashion. They could have been put in jail cells with strange people and forced to interact, have a cafeteria segment, an elaborate escape plan as the finale, etc.

It's still amusing to watch every year though

Shinagawa himself doesn't bring anything to the humor. The Gaki members should at least have a little more time to think so that they wouldn't have to forcefully add the name / ingredients of the food inside a pre-made template.

Small games like shiritori, pop-up pirate or "don't wake the dog" were far more entertaining because they were so simple (ie. gave more freedom to the cast).

It's the second "get pissed at a prank" episode that aired recently. For example, the pillow they sit on may have a whoopie cushion under it and they are ordered to pick wherever they want to sit, so the one who pulls the short straw has to act all angry.

This time their acting turns were kept short, but in the first one they had for go longer periods of time at public places so it was somewhat awkward to watch.

Cocorico's rolls are occupied by Hamada and Matsumoto. Watch their own show and they're completely different. In Gaki, they are the most themselves. Tanaka is the genuine and somber one whose comedy is based on reactions to things that are done to him. Endo is the too cool for school guy whose comedy is based on breaking that down with ridiculous things that he's done.

Most of the best Gaki moments involve Tanaka and Endo directly. The Endo trial and Tanaka's betrayal by his beloved son are probably the most cited "favorites" from a Batsu game involving the main cast primarily. The rest might have more little moments of comedy that are produced by the character they're playing, but it wouldn't be the same without Cocorico's memorable moments.

Neither Endou's trial or Tanaka's letter had absolutely nothing to do with the two's comedic skills. Literally anyone in the same position (ie. someone who's a stupid womanizer and someone who's a good father) could have done the same. Being able to "react" is a thing that is expected from basically every single comedian out there.
I haven't seen them doing kombi stuff, but them appearing solo on shows like Ametalk isn't that entertaining.

Matsumoto is pretty much the only one in the group that tries to come up with jokes at all times. In both positive and negative ways, he can get very desperate to deliver jokes.
I'm still sad that they stopped doing the Free Talk where Matsumoto would come up with the most ridiculous things on the moment and make it all work out in the end, most famous example probably being the ending of Curry argument.

Yamazaki is probably the second one when it comes to creativity, but being a suberi character takes much less skill since bombing a joke is already a small success.

>> No.13167630

Cocorico might not seem to be that great on Gaki but when you see them on other shows like Lincoln with other "top comedians" they shine.

I tried writing a wall of text earlier, but captcha refresh losing text field focus and me pressing backspace ruined it, so in short, Hamada is an exception because he has no problems slapping/kicking random comedians and celebrities, while usually it's done only during manzai act and/or to one's own partner as a tsukkomi. Also, it's clear from stuff like the Nishikawa segments on batsu games that he really enjoys watching other people suffer.

>>13179691
In owarai/variety, screentime is given to people who are actually funny. Most variety shows are done by filming several hours worth of content in order to edit a good 13/24/45 minute show out of it, so using the stuff that wasn't entertaining would be pointless.

Endou always does stupid things in order extend his appearance on Kiki and he gets called on it every single time by the rest of the cast. Tanaka gets more screentime because his reactions and behavior (not sure if natural or not) are funnier.
Another example is Fukuda from Shabekuri 007: there are times when he speaks, but the amount is only a fraction from the other non-MCs (approximately, Arita > Tokui >> HoriKen = Nagura > Harada >>>>>> Fukuda).

Another example is Fukuda from Shabekuri 007: there are times when he speaks, but the amount is only a fraction from the other non-MCs (approximately, Arita > Tokui >> HoriKen = Nagura > Harada >>>>>> Fukuda).

But Heipo is funny. Also by that logic is that mean if Cocorico suddenly become funnier they can steal gaki no tsukai from downtown?

I always forget to ask this, but what the fuck is "VTR"? Matsumoto always yells it when they're introducing the batsu.

A video clip that is different from the show that the people in the scene were "then" recording.
In Batsu Bames, the parts where Gaki cast gets their assess whipped is filmed, edited and narrated into VTRs which are then played for the batsu game studio with cast member commentary and live audience reactions.

Easiest way to notice VTRs is the presence of "wipe", the small window showing reactions from cast members observing the clip.

VTR->video tape recording
before there were vcrs (video cassette recording)

apan industry still uses the term "vtr" to mean previously recorded video. like the use of "roll tape" in the english speaking broadcast industry.

They wouldn't. Gaki no Tsukai is Matsumoto's show so they will make sure Downtown will always shine the brightest on the show no matter what. Cocorico is also big enough they have had many shows of their own already (Oukon Densetsu, Miracle Type, Million Kazoku, etc.)

Pretty much anyone who's looked any further into GnT should know Kiki. Afterall, together with Batsu Games, Zettai Oishii and Silent Library, it's one of the few subseries that gets actively subbed.

Underrated GnT would be something like the "500/100 Quiz" series.

It's definitely an error. Even if you knew nothing about one of the most famous Japanese retail chains, the fact that there's a separation mark " ・" between Don and Kihoote should tell you something.
>Hmm, don't know this word... Let's not google it like any sane person would. Instead, I'll make a ridiculous guess and hope it's correct!
What the fuck was the translator thinking?
