I wont sugar coat it, I'm a fucking wreck right now.

I had the last 2 weeks off work and I used it to beat muvluv from start to finish. I've never been so immersed in anything my entire life. Such a roller coaster of emotions, now that I'm finished im feeling really depressed. It's like I lost my best friend.

Also: Meiya is the best female character I've come across in vn (listening to her ost I want to cry), and alternative takeru is easily the best male protagonist simply because of how connected you feel to him on this hell ride. To be honest, for me, Muv Luv Alternative is the best fiction I've ever come across. I remember feeling somewhat similar after the clannad vn, and breaking bad, but definitely not this depressed.

It's not overtly racist but the stereotypes are hilarious and awful. This goes for all the characters. The worst thing you can say about the racism issue is that the ethnic girls' races are personality archetypes equivalent to "nerdy girl" or "athletic girl", which is a pretty stupid way to handle that.

It barely matters because the rest of the game is really lacking and has hilariously shit writing.

This is a visual novel/adventure game in which players follow the story of a young couple discussing the events of their lives. Players follow along with the story and make decisions at key points in order to further the plot. The game includes several scenes dealing with sexuality and sexual assault: one still-frame scene depicts a male character forcibly kissing a woman and touching her genitals (e.g., dialogue includes her saying “no” and telling him that his actions are hurting her); dialogue also goes into detail about instances of sexual assault (e.g., “She struggled to get away. I wouldn't let her. My shoulder and free hand holding her down wouldn't permit it”; “That night, I was raped many, many times . . . Blood and semen mingled down there.”). Animated still-frame images sometimes depict sexual activity: acts of fellatio, with male genitals partially obscured; sexual intercourse with exposed breasts and genitalia partially obscured. Several scenes include prolonged audio of sexual moaning. A handful of scenes depict characters with blood stains on their hands, underwear, and genitals. The word “f**k appears in dialogue.

For example, when the protag and another character are walking side by side, it shows a profile view of the other character with the sprite bobbing up and down and the background moving. Seeing as we'll never, EVER see a JAST release of Kikokugai: The Cyber Slayer (even if we did, it would be the original) despite them having the license; I've begun to work on translating (or rather, converting it) the 2011 remake into english.

It uses the Makoto translation.
Other than menu related art that has to be re-done, I'm about 20% done with testing and insertion of the script.

The differences between the remake and the original are as follows:

>Highy quality art assets, 2k included
>Many more effects and animations
>Full voice acting
>All-Ages sex scenes

As the remake is on a new engine, there won't be any incompatilities that prevent any functions like the CG and sound libraries from working, unlike the original english release.

Poorly phrased, perhaps, but yes.
The scenes are very much intact from the original game, but the CGs have been adjusted for an all-ages release.

I could include the original CGs in an optional patch, but it would be entirely out of place as the art assets from the original are quite low res.

Not to mention that some of the Gynoids were redesigned, creating some inconsistencies in visual presentation.

Here's an example of how they were altered.
Hardly graphic, but the script remains the same.

Men don't cry. If you cry as a man, you're a wussy. That's what society decided long ago. 'Manly tears' are tears that are justified even though you're a man (and not supposed to cry). 'Boo hoo sad things happened' is not manly in the slightest.

But we also have to consider that fan translation was on the decline before the very recent, and still nascent, boom of VNs on Steam. Even though presumable more people are getting into VNs. I don't know what the explanation for this is.

I can't see how anyone would consider that a negative.
Translators gets paid so they can spend more time translating and the original creators gets paid so they can make better products. Now translators don't have to spend time reverse engineering shit either.
If english speaking VN market reaches critical mass the translators will have way more bargining power than they do currently and will have a much easier time getting the licenses they want.

It wasn't just Hatoful. It all started with Telltale Games. All the normalfags LOVED the 'choose-your-own-adventure lite-book with VA and graphics'-style of their more recent games, starting, of course, with The Walking Dead. That was the gateway 'VN' for plebs. From there, it was a stepping stone to Hatoful Boyfriend, then to Sakura Spirit and all those other shit VNs. 'Irony' purchases factor in as well, though I question how a shit VN LP can end up with 20k viewers.

I predicted this shit years ago. All that's left is a slow roll down the hill. On the plus side, we'll have more localizations. On the negative side, we'll have more censorship and shitty translators or kikes (Sekai Project), trying to maximize profits while minimizing effort, required knowledge, and 'bad publicity' (read: nudity).

Did anyone else add more genres to the list that MangaGamer had? I'd like to see more games with fantasy elements.

Also when answering the question about why you'd be hesitant to purchase from MangaGamer (I really wish they would've let me choose more than 1) what did people pick? Price? DRM? Unintuitive website? Title selection? Poor opinion of the company?

Nah, the text is just fine - at least on my monitor.
With the exception of spoken dialog, the textboxes are generally always full.

Changing fonts and sizes would likely require a full revision of my current progress, which I'm not really up to at this point.

Also, all menu related art has been completed.
Only script insertion remains, which is close to the halfway point.

I feel like we're living in backwards world where Mangagamer is actually releasing quality titles at a quick pace, while fantranslators do fucknothing.

Sekai Project is shit too. I'm salty that they managed to bribe Koestl, considering he's actually a good fucking translator. Especially since they're butchering everything else, and the person who owns the company is a cock that feels the need to fly to Japan personally for licensing in first class.

MG has certainly come a long way. Though I hope they can eventually afford to do physical releases from the start for at least some of their titles. They still need to work on their web design and company image as well.

I can only hope that Koestl's work may raise the standards many fans have for SP's other releases. While I would like to have that nice Clannad hardcopy, their track record has me too wary to support it.

MG has come a long way, but they've still got a very long way to go. They've had to throw out multiple completely finished scripts because they were so poorly translated. You'd think any fucker could translate a nukige competently, but apparently you'd be wrong.

They also badly need to get rid of Kouryuu.

What'll happen is that when people (rightly) say SP's releases are shit, they'll point to Grisaia as 'proof' that they're not.

He seems to have done a lot of good for them. Need to get someone else for PR though. Especially for con panels.

No it's not. Practically all moege get in the 75-85 range. Only things either above or below that are really notable either for better or worse.

Also, the U18 version is the one with 80, eagle eye. Not the full version.

You know, saying that makes it sound like you actually had access to MG total sales in 2014.

On another note, Eden translator posted an entry on MG blog. See http://blog.mangagamer.org/2015/01/23/eden-translators-corner/
He even posted a print of a post on /jp/ back in 2010. It was this - https://archive.moe/jp/thread/4782154/#4785589

At EGS
70-74 "mediocre"
75-79 "okay"
80-82 "good"
83-85 "very good"
85-89 "kamige"
90-100 "shitty console port which only fags played".

Oops, that's what I meant. And yeah, I understand your point, but it always felt to me like people who gave 75~85 liked it very much, but it must be because I only read the more extensive reviews.

In the majority of cases, yes, but many famous titles claimed as kamige are there in the 90-100 range.

Maybe shortly after their release. This drops to the 70-79 range with time. If something stays in the 80's it's an indicator that there's a pretty good chance it's good. >>12949081 is pretty spot on.

But ultimately egs is as fallible as any other aggregate of personal opinions. I've played shit in the 70s that I thought was great and shit in the 80s I thought was mediocre at best.
