I've been playing Touhou 6 for my first game on normal, and after a month of playing once or twice a day my top score is 8753990 and I get to the third stage. Am I shit? Am I decent?

By twice a day you mean literally "I start one run, get game over at stage 3 -> I start another run, get game over at stage 3 -> I call it a day and stop playing"? Because it's understandable if it's like that.
Though you'll never get good like that, once you start you need to spend a whole day or you won't sharpen your reflexes. Of course you don't have to play everyday this way.

IN builds terrible habits, namely the absolutely gigantic window you have for deathbombing, and the huge bullet density and slow speed of shots aren't going to help you at all in the later games. EoSD is still a terrible choice for "getting into" touhou though.

Not him, I guess it's because you only have 3 continues. So if you get game over you have to restart all over again and lose time by doing the easier stages all over again.

Meanwhile with the newer games make you restart from the beginning of the stage you last got game over from without the 3 continues penality (though to achieve the true ending you still have to clear the game without any continue used).

When I started out, I switched back and forth between several games. Like you, I only played a little each day and my reflexes are just fine. The better you get, the more addictive the games become.

Is is me, or DDC is also easy to get into Touhou, other than the stage 5 gimmick that can turn off people. Second most straight forward point system after EoSD. A fresh start after the scoring points fuckery that was UFO and TD.

Also, good shot types all around the place.
