Thing is, it's hard to actually support the artist directly. If you buy it through a courier service, it's most likely a private seller who's bought up the albums and is selling them at a markup. The artist has gotten their money already, and by buying it through a reseller you're just supporting some asshole who wants to make money off of other people's hard work.
Even if the album comes directly from the creator (rare, since it requires a bit of money to set up the infrastructure required to sell your own stuff from home), you have to find a courier service. Many of them are straight-out fraudulent, making money off of weeaboos who'll never actually give them legal trouble, and quite a lot are just slipshod and half-assed.
If you find an honest and competent courier service, you have to make sure that it's cheap. It's rarely cheap, and just for the handling you'll have to shell out a lot more than the album's price. A lot of courier services charge by the item too, so there's no attempting to decrease the per-item expense by ordering multiple things.
If you manage to find a way to buy the album directly from the creator, as well as find an honest, competent, timely and cheap courier service, you're still not finished. You'll have to deal with having the album shipped halfway across the world through a few in-betweens, which can endanger the product. If you happen to live in a country that's strict on obscenity legislation, your package might be stopped in the border check, but you'll still have to pay. If you dare buy loli material in certain countries (Oz, for example), you'll be lucky to not get prosecuted or put on a sex offender suspect list.
All in all, you can end up pouring out in excess of a hundred dollars on a shipment that isn't guaranteed to arrive intact, if at all.
I'd rather wait until I can go to Japan and buy the works in person instead of having to ruin myself shelling out to profiteers with no guarantee of receiving what I paid for.

The only way to pay "directly to the creator" is to buy at Comiket. Otherwise you're buying from a store like Melonbooks, like everyone else.

I used FromJapan for buying CDs and they charge 200 Yen per item commission plus 5%. An average album is around 1500 Yen.

Expanding on these two posts. An actual relevant example is used video game stores that sell used games like Gamestop.

Someone/somewhere bought the game originally and money went to the creator. If the game is sold to gamestop that creator isn't refunding money so there should be no reason why he should get money when it's sold again. So why should the creator be given money twice for the same product?

Nice try not comprehending the difference between buying from a major company and buying from an indie creator. You wouldn't necessarily want to support the major company, but you'd want to make sure that the small-time indie gets his cut.
>>12862797
What you're saying is technically true, but it encourages small-time profiteering and markups. Even for example Toranoana isn't going to pay full price for buying in bulk (if they even buy in bulk instead of just getting the license to reprint the CDs), and that allows them to shaft the creator if the album gets unexpectedly many sales. It's the same logic behind licensing - buy up cheap early on, then sell off at a markup. By having the creator being linked directly to the retailer, you make sure that they're getting what they deserve no matter how much the album sells.

You seem to miss that a rather normal way of distributing profits in a record deal, for example (though the record company won't like it that much) is to fix the creator's share at a percentage of the sales, rather than a fixed license sum. So what you're saying is that the former never happens, and the latter always does?
I'm having a very hard time imagining that for example Toranoana physically picks up every CD from the creator and pays for them without discount for bulk, instead of kiking it up and just paying a fixed license fee for the right to print CDs for a few years.

I would love to but its just too expensive and too much of a hassle to get physical copies, and digital copies aren't all that common right? I bought a couple of albums off Toranoana in 2013 and I'm planning on purchasing some more soon.

I wish more artists would use Bandcamp. It's so much faster to get your shit and not worry about getting some awful transcoded months after the album was released. No one would have to worry about the album eventually becoming unobtainable because of dead links as the artist put it there themselves.

I've created cues that work with my build of fb2k (v1.3.3) and the original uploaded WAV files, along with the updated tags given by the anon above. Potentially, you can simply use these to split the songs into their own files into your codec of choice (v0, flac, whatever).

https://mega.co.nz/#!PYt30boT!aAm3tpaowcWM1kA2x-l-2NUkh6TMd4ZIOxwcBPPzIgg

If you really want I can upload my already split files (I like FLAC for library uniformity), but the link for that will come later on when I'm not using my bandwidth for other things. Nothing you can't do yourself with these CUE files, though and fb2k.

With no scans available, I think I'll trust the JP Wiki over the Chinese.

The only lament I have now is that it'll probably be another 2+ years before the next GSW comes out and we get some more music.

Even if the whole game is basically one huge SRW/Touhou parody it still has some of the most pleasant to listen remixes around. It's a pretty well made game as well.

I do if they're on Bandcamp, which amounts to hardly anyone. I don't have the disposable income to waste importing physical albums when they'll just end up being shelf decoration since this isn't 1998 and I don't use CDs to listen to music anymore. I'd rather just pirate the albums and donate 10 bucks or whatever right to the artists because I do feel bad.

The name "Loudness War," by itself, is the practice of mastering the analog output of the audio to it's maximum peak, thus sacrificing sound quality over to literal loudness.

TL;DR It's not good. If you were to look at a graph you can see that the audio levels would be "maxed" out or "brickedwalled" to the point where all the peaks are hit on the edges of the spectrum.

If you really can't find it (as it looks like for Silverscape - at least I couldn't find it in about 10 minutes of search), then it's time to start making request posts in various places' request threads.

I wouldn't worry too much, though. The "discussion" garbage wasn't there, and I'm pretty sure the albums were properly labeled, so you actually knew what was what without relying on cover art knowledge.

Either way, it's definitely a shitsite right now.

Most artist probably think that their composition is enough to make them sound unique. Plus, the skill at which you utilize the Vocaloid program varies anyway. Mitchie_M is a good example. It's kind of a fine balance between being a part of something big and standing out at the same time.

Miku as a "brand" developed into its own self-sustaining marketing engine, much like how Touhou itself brings a lot of varied people together under one "brand" so to speak and falling under this "brand" is great for everybody involved. Miku herself became an identifier for the Vocaloid niche (and maybe her own niche all together) and her voice then, went from being a differentiator to becoming that cue to make people think of all the things that Miku entails in a greater sense. That is the essence of the snowball effect.

Stuff like FELT albums are crafted in a way so that they're intended to be listened in order. That has the most reason to keep all songs to a degree. Even then, I take out everything I find bad.

All other doujin albums are stuff appended together randomly or semi-randomly (stuff like intro songs still exist in some) with no coordination in theme or sometimes even style. There is nothing to be gained in listening to whole albums for these.

TTA has SLIGHTLY better compression rates but nobody but Asia uses it and it's not supported on most media players (unless you are using rockbox). It became the standard back in '06 on Winny about the same time FLAC became the standard for lossless (you may remember LonE) music rips in the west. You realize most doujin albums are made basically by one person? Draw the Emotional (RIP), Foreground Eclipse (RIP), Further Ahead of Warp, CLOCKWORKS TRACER, miskyworks (RIP), GET IN THE RING, Pastel World, Sakura Yuuke, 9bFOX, Shinigiwa Satellite, there are too many. All the rock/punk/metal circles are DIY and even if they're "circles," most arrangements are done by 1 person.

You probably only listen to the electronic circles. I'm not saying this condescendingly; electronic producers are just always featuring each other, so I get what you're saying about "album flow." Guests sometimes miss the mark when they do their tracks. But then that falls to the producer of the album to decide whether it should be on the album (and to be fair, they probably say "okay this is fine" or "wow this track is great" without thinking about the album as a whole).

But thinking that all albums are just a bunch of random people throwing songs together is kind of ignorant. I know very few fans actually care about who is making this music you're stealing, but the information is right there.

>> No.12880854

>most
This might have been the case, and even then I prefer having .flacs regardless.

And it's not just about being one person, if the Album is actually connected then sure that's a nice benefit, but most albums just don't have much thought put into them.

I don't know if you were the same person, but I was replying to "find me an album done by a single person." There's a lot of them. The majority of them, I'd say. We only get what people deign to upload.

But what you're saying here is having an "album experience" is just a "nice benefit?" So you don't actually care either way? If you don't care about the music at all, why complain about your experience?

If you only pick out the songs you like and delete the rest, that's fine, I guess. But you shouldn't just say there "isn't much thought put into this" because you literally cannot have any idea about the arranger's creative intent. These are real people making this music, it's not like the links just suddenly appear on the internet. Have a little respect for the content creators.
