1283662 No.1283662 [Reply] [Original]

I have actually never played/watched Clannad, Kanon, or Fate/Stay Night.

...once the outrage subsides, might I perhaps get suggestions as to whether to watch the anime for each respective series first or hold off until I've played the games?

>> No.1283667

Clannad animu and Kanon 2006 animu were alright.

F/SN, it's shit right?, it's shit, etc.

>> No.1283670

Nope.

Key is totally shit, and Type-moon makes key look amazingly good.

I'm just like you.Only that I've never watched F/SN and Kanon.

>> No.1283676

Kanon (2006 version) and Clannad better as anime. FSN better as VN.

>> No.1283678

inb4 tsukihime anime

>> No.1283682

The Clannad and FSN animes did not do either novel any kind of justice. Forget the shows and read the novels.

Kanon 2006 was pretty good, though, and better than the novel in my opinion. It's nowhere near as good as Clannad, though.

Clannad game never ends, just watch the show and play Tomoyo After and hope for a spinoff game that just has every character as Sunohara.

Kanon, watching KyoAni's version is basically playing the game (I mean they even used the same sound track without redoing it or anything) and half the lines are verbatim from the game at that.

So basically just watch the animu.

As for fate, don't bother doing anything.

>> No.1283687

Clannad is definitely worth playing, one of the best VN out there.
Kanon is better as an anime honestly, watch it.
For FSN, the anime is pretty average with one good episode, 14 of course. The VN is good too, could be better but I'm holding hope for HF.

>> No.1283694

Only watch the anime versions if you don't have time to explore the games or your power level isn't high enough to find the games and English patches.

>> No.1283737

Key's stuff is shit. Just watch the anime, you'd fall asleep playing the games, and get disgusted by the art.
F/SN isn't that great, but the game is way better than the anime.

>> No.1283747

So, here's my "straight dope"

* Tsukihime: Read the novel or I will beat you with hammers. Avoid the anime at all costs, for a number of reasons.

* Fate/Stay Night: The novel simply isn't worth it. Sure it has it's good parts, but overall, the time you sink into it doesn't result in some kind of emotional catharsis or whatever. It's just ... okay. Watch the anime if you're curious.

* Kanon: The anime is god. The novel is old, and suffers from terribly dated graphics, KEY-faces (uguu~) and a non-finished translation. Go with KyoAnis 2006 version, it is fucking fantastic and probably the best interpretation of a VN I've seen.

* Clannad: Like, I tried playing it, it is good. But my fuck it takes up a million years of your time, and that's with the guide. I mean, if you can stand the wait the VN is probably the way to go, but I could not do it. The anime is off to a HORRIBLE start, but it is redeemed at ep 7, ep 14 and then I kinda zoned out. The main girl is too obvious, and she is really a poor character compared to the supporting cast. AIR and Kanon did not have the same problem since the characters felt more distinct, and doubly so for the leads, in Clannad however, there is a lot of "generic moe" everywhichway. Perhaps my jadedness is a a result of the time gap between the anime + english patch and the original relase, I don't know. All I know is that 7 & 14 are some of the best anime episodes I've seen in my entire life. Christ, show 14 out of context to people and they will react the same way every mother I've ever met reacts to the infamous "Beach Scene" from AIR.

CLANNAD is pretty much my favorite VN, several routes in the game completely blew me away. The After Story was simply fantastic.
Also Sunohara was far too awesome for words.
FSN is good, it's being trolled here but it's worth reading.
Didn't play Kanon, the anime was good I guess, a little too forced toward the end.

>> No.1283808

The Clannad VN is long, but I never found it dry. It will indeed take quite a while to read but I enjoyed it the entire time. The show suffered from trying to cram a novel that deserved something like 70 episodes into 26. They did two arcs well, and then crammed another 8 or so into the remaining few episodes. They also chopped off something like 8 years from the end of the story, but now that it has a second season coming I'm sure they'll address some of that.

Go ahead and watch the Clannad anime, but if you like it, you're doing yourself a disservice by not reading the novel.

>> No.1283834

Tsukihime visual novel is still my favorite visual novel, and KT and MB are great as well.

I enjoyed the F/SN anime. Waiting for the HF patch before I start the game.

Only Key stuff I've had any exposure to outside of clips and discussions are Planetarian and ONE. (though the latter isn't technically Key) Planetarian was good, ONE was shit.

Also, play Ever 17. It gets kinda slow at times, but the good parts and especially the last route make it all worth it.

>> No.1283903

OP here: I've played Tsukihime, Kara no Kyoukai makes me wish they'd get them to do a Tsukhime anime.

So the consensus is that Kanon is just better off watched, Clannad and F/SN better played? Sounds good to me.

I'm not particularly casual, per se, I like playing VNs, but I've got a long list of VNs I'm working through, not so long a list of anime I actually would want to watch.

>> No.1283910

>>1283903
Yes, Clannad is better played, but only if you're actually going to do every route and complete After Story. I got the full impact out of that.

If you're only going to do Kotomi or Tomoyo's routes and drop it then just stick to the animu.

Don't bother with the Clannad VN, it's not porn. Kanon VN has hot porn IMO, but some people hate the character designs, and others hate it because they're moralfags who hate the idea the hottest character in it was mistaken for an elementary schooler (but she's really of high school age except she's actually someone trapped in a coma so she still has an elementary schoolers body except she's somehow magically in the body of a high schooler who looks like an elementary schooler. Or something like that. Just go with it, don't think too hard about it...)
As for F/SN, it's not that brilliant gameplay, plot and storylines are very good, though a tad generic, and the porn is all granny. They killed the Illya route and tease you about it. Still, some hot scenes.
Avoid type moon like the plague.

Nope. The school arcs are each about as long as a tsukihime arc, but there are something like 11 of them. Then you have the after story, which seemed to me to be about as long as 5 or so of the school arcs put together.

Tomoyo's Route ont he Clannad VN made me Baww, but that was before they made it into an episode. Kyou's route was also actually pretty good because that's pretty much one of my favorite situations, and that's about it... Anyone got the absolute day for the first episode of clannad After story?
