I was planning on setting up a nonlethal trap the night before, and seeing if they took the bait in the morning so they don't stay trapped for too long. I don't think too much at all, you'd just need a cage along with some bedding and fun things to play with. Though that doesn't need to be expensive, mice can have fun with things like toilet paper tubes.

As far as I know it's important to play with them at least once a day, or else they'll start to go feral.

I don't know that they get very lonely as long as you interact with them. But having two is more fun for everyone. Although sometimes one mouse is an asshole and bullies the other. That was rare. I only had girls so maybe that matters.

One time I bought a VERY baby maus from a reptile expo when I was very young. She was completely hairless and her eyes were still shut. They sold them by the hundreds and fed them to snakes.
I felt bad for them, so I bought one and tried to raise her myself. Unfortunately they seem to become very stressed without mothers, I tried to feed her warm milk with a small spoon but she wouldn't take it. She only lasted so long, even with a warming lamp I set up for her.

I think it is best to get baby mice only when they are being raised by two of your own adult mice. They are very delicate creatures who need a lot of love.

They were selling them for 5 cents each, just grabbing them by the handfuls and boxing them. The guy selling them was huge and had a ton of tattoos. I asked him if I could have a female and he just looked at me funny. I love snakes, but I don't think could ever feed one a live maus.
