Still even if not you can live the lifestyle to a degree.

So what kind of stuff can you do in Japan other than teaching? It seems to me that teaching is just the easy fuck off way to get there without trying but is shitty. What's good?

>> No.1284116

I work in recruitment for a Japanese recruitment consultancy. Go on JET, I recommend it far more than I do your GEOS or your SHANE. Returnees from JET are typically well educated, well spoken and can go on to do bigger and brighter things. NOVA is rubbish and there's quite alot of NOVA returnees who basically just wasted a year boozing and fucking Japanese girls without learning anything (or maybe, that's what you want to do). Besides, they're no longer in business.

Despite what you people are saying about JET, I really do recommend it if you want to teach in Japan because it's government funded, so the conditions are better than private English school. I think you also get to pick the top 3 locations you'd like to work at or something.

If you want to teach in Japan do it right after university (or college, whatever you amerifags call it), otherwise there's not much point.

Also, if you don't speak Japanese, pretty much the only things you can do in Japan are teach English or go into recruitment/head-hunting. If you're lucky, you might be able to find a job in Japan with a non-Japanese company that have an office over there, provided you have the background they're looking for.

However, if you do manage to pick up fluency in Japanese there's a whole wealth of job opportunities out there for you when you return to wherever you came from. Getting the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 1 will really raise you above the crowd. People who don't have fluency can still find jobs in companies who look for those that have an understanding of Japanese culture, although the roles may not be as interesting/well paid.

There's more I could say but I can't be arsed to type all that shit out.
