Wanted to ask, if anyone knows where such >>12746097 wigs can be found (with ears and tail)? I've seen some person selling similar at yahoo, but those had quite a poor color pallet (gray/blond ones) while I've seen some people having blue and red ones.
Any ideas where to check? Or should I just stick to Yahoo and hope for the best?

Surpassed Azone 1/3 dolls? Maybe. Surpassed Volks? I highly doubt it. Every time Volks has a pre-order to dollpa limited, they either get 100's (if not 1,000s) of pre-orders or max out on limiteds (the number of limiteds made is never released, but after years in the hobby a safe estimate is 500-2000 depending on the doll).

I can't change her eyes, I think it's too cold. The glue takes forever to warm up and even when it seems ready I can't really do anything.
I wish they just used eye putty.

We can help you pick out a head mold, body, eyes, and wig. There might even be an existing DD head with a faceup that matches your character (this would save you the trouble of commissioning a faceup)

That would be very difficult, because the body of the doll would need to be painted and sealed. Even minor handling of the doll would cause the sealant and paint to wear off eventually.

There is one tan DD made - Kanu. The only problem is painting her lighter to get the swimsuit tan effect. You would encounter the same problems as above. Also, Kanu is rare and expensive as fuck, and she's a DDdy.

Not to mention, airbrushing the body of dolls, whether vinyl or resin, never looks good.

No, don't ever set your doll in the sun. It will cause pigmentation breakdown- more likely to make the doll more yellow, or more green. It is a bad, bad idea. Airbrushing the lighter tans onto the body would be the easiest way to get what you want, anon, but it would be best over a tan doll.. some people have tanned their dolls with spray paint or dye but it doesn't really look good often. Here's some tan lines on a resin doll for you.

Mandarake and Closetchild both tend to ship really fast and EMS from Japan gets here very quickly. I have no experience in how fast anyone else ships

Though resins are probably the easiest to work with. Ideally I'd go for a silicone doll, and I'm sure there is a lot more issues with painting that stuff. Unless it would magically make it less of a dust magnet, and actually be an improvement.

SD10 and SD13 are pretty similar. If you've got a S bust, I'd just suggest not getting anything with defined cups or a fitted bodice if it's not meant for S bust.

Here's my DDS M in some ninestyle. It's just normal SD sized. SD16 is too big.

If the Korean site says "origin post preparing shipment" then it means your package is sitting in a bin, and the bin won't be loaded onto a plane until it's full. Did you definitely order with EMS? This type of shit happens with small packet and RSAL.

Those two dolls are the most difficult to shop for. SD bags certainly wont fit the DDS unless it's accessories, and same goes for DDdy.

I'd recommend buying accessories. Hats, wigs, eyes, scarves, bags, care items like wig wax or wig spray, etc. You're not going to find clothes that fit either doll type unless you're willing to shell out $60+ for an article of clothing (or more for an outfit).

Well, first of all DD's are made of vinyl not resin. And dolls almost never wear bras, unless they're being displayed in their underwear.

Also, the only doll that a DDDy but will fit on is a Dollfie dream dynamite body. There are peach pie option parts that fit other dolls, but they're basically impossible to get a hold of unless you are fluent in moon and have $300 to drop on them.

If Miku stains, then she does, but I really can't imagine liking the aesthetic of that.

I've already got my Miku too; she came with some of the volks anti-stain tape, which I applied to some parts of her, where I imagined she'd get stains possibly. It is stealthy enough to not bother me if you apply it carefully and exactly at the right locations.. And I'll probably get some casual not-so-dark clothes for her to wear anyway.

Stains can be removed with RemoveZit anyway. If you intend on keeping Miku in stock, slight stains at the cuffs of her clothing aren't that big of a deal. I think her outfit is very well lined anyway, so any stains would be minor.

I tried using the tape, but when I took it off it seems to have left a mark sort of like an indentation where the tape was. I don't know whether I wrapped it round too tight or something but it's not fading away. It's not that visible in the photo, but it's very noticeable in real life.

I can't say for certain since I do not own Miku, but it looks like some of the fabric dye seeped through the tape an into the vinyl. This happens with silicon (and even cloth) headcaps too when the doll has a dark wig on.

Those stains can easily be removed, so I wouldn't worry too much about them.

Anon I forgot: you mentioned that it's an indentation. The vinyl that Volks uses for the external body parts is quite soft and is prone to warping. It actually warps and bubbles quite a bit when you use RemoveZit on it, but it does go back to normal eventually. So if you did end up causing an indentation by wrapping the tape tightly, that will probably work itself out over time.

While these dolls are expensive as hell, I have to commend Volks on their durability. DD's are pretty tough.

I've just had a closer look at the marks and the bits in the picture are probably from the blue fabric on the chair she was sat on for a bit, but there are definitely really faint marks all around her legs where the tape was even in places where there's been nothing resting on it. they're not really noticeable unless you're looking for them, but I don't think I'll be using the tape again just to be on the safe side.

I didn't wrap it tight, I actually cut the tape into tiny segments, didn't wrap it around her. It doesn't seem very indented that much anymore but the texture in that place is different, her normal skin is more matte. I have no clue if it improved with time, maybe a little, if heat was involved (I've read it's about the vinyl being unable to expand) I'll probably have to wait until spring for this shit to heal.

I mostly dress my girl in light colors, but there's a pair of brown stockings I really like on her, and they tend to stain a bit around the waist if left on for several days. My experience is that it depends on the fabric. I have a couple of black outfits that don't stain at all - didn't even have to wash them. And a few I've washed and they no longer stain. And then of course there's some that will stain even after washing them multiple times.

Best way is to have a spare piece of vinyl to do stain testing on.

1/3 is the most popular scale and has the most outfits available by far. They're also the most expensive, of course.

Their bodies do look better though, if they made a semi-white one ( that would also match Volks vinyl...) I might consider getting one just to try to place a DD head on it. I don't really get why he didn't make it easily compatible with DD heads (from what I've seen the peg is different and smaller), you'd think it's pretty obvious that people would want to buy it as an alternative body for DD heads, at least the smart version.

What in particular are you looking to make? General measurements are around the bust, waist, and hips. For the dress like your picture the actual form will be relatively easy to make. The place most people struggle with on dresses is the bust, so if you are new to sewing a doll with a smaller bust will be easier for you to work with. For sewing, you don't use templates, but you use patterns. If you were to buy patterns for people, you would need to scale it down, however I'm not sure how difficult that would be for someone new to sewing. For doll sized patterns there are quite a few online, just look up the correct scale. Personally I just wing it for most simple stuff but I have a lot of experience so I can eyeball it.

Volks USA hinted they only allow lottery for special stuff for NA, and their site does not seem to carry anything more than the basic models that are just so plain and undressed. Volks JP seem to be mostly just about selling to Japanese.

So do I have to buy my stuff from resellers or use shopping services to get a doll?

Also, is the best method of satisfaction to just buy them in pieces? In that case perhaps there is no restrictions for purchases. I keep feeling like I'd have to settle for an OK model if I have to pick from the available ones, instead of a dream doll if I combine pieces myself. (Even though I am not entirely sure what I want yet)

Volks only releases dolls every few months at special events (called Dollpa). The Dollpa after-event is the lottery, where Japanese and international customers can enter a lottery to win the chance to purchase a doll. You need to keep checking Volks' websites and DD blogs to know when these lotteries are happening, and when international customers can enter. Usually Japan gets its after-event lottery first, then the international lottery happens a few weeks later.

There are also dolls that are released as pre-orders. These are available to all customers, worldwide. Preorders typically happen around a year before the doll is shipped out. There is no limit to how many people can these dolls, but they're shipped on a first-come first-serve basis. Again, you just need to check blogs and Volks' site to know when these pre-order dolls are announced

Finally, there are the DD standard models, which are available on Volks' site at all times.

You can buy the doll in pieces if you're not after one of the limited dolls. Usually people will find a head that they like on Y!JA, then buy a body separately. Many artists sell their custom painted DD heads on Y!JA. This is definitely cheaper than buying a limited doll on the aftermarket.

Yeah, but there is a sort-of-risk.

He probably wouldn't lose money but getting huge profits might not be so predictable.

And of course people do buy aftermarket dolls. Might be a small bit harder to get one sold depending on where you live as compared to being in Japan, but if he's planning it as a several year "investing", being able to sell it off instantly might not be a top priority. It'd be good idea to get several different dolls, I suppose.

I preordered Sheryl. I like how she looks, I like the outfits, I like Sheryl, my currently only doll has a flat chest so its nice to get one with a larger one. Looking exactly like the anime character isn't that important to me as long as it isn't as far off as that K-ON Mio doll (as an example).

It probably will stain, but it will only stain underneath itself, so you will only have issues if you change to a wig with a different size and/or are autistic and can't be comfortable knowing it's there - which is quite common amongst doll owners. Most of my girls with dark hair have stained heads, it's just a repercussion of the superior hair colour choice.

Like the other anon said, as long as that's the wig you intend to keep on your doll for the foreseeable future, it's not that big of a deal. Personally, I would be worried about bangs staining the face anywhere near the faceup, especially if it's a limited doll. If we can see a pic we can know what the potential damage may be.

Also, try getting a cloth wig cap and putting that on top of the silicon wig cap. Extra protection from staining can't hurt (although a small amount of the dark dye from the wig may still stain the head - par for the course)

In most of Makoto's promo pics, it looks like here hair is well off of her faceup. If you can invest in some wig wax (if you even need it), it will help you ensure that the wig style won't fall flat and land on her face. Volks did a good job with the wig shape/style though, as it seems to really sit away from her face.

Okay first, put a bit of the wax on your thumb and middle/index finger, take the strand of hair between them and style accordingly. It's not hard. Don't use too much or it'll be too shiny or sticky looking. You can always wash it out with lukewarm water (and baby shampoo if you want) if you mess up. If you can, maybe do a practice on another wig first?
