It's not the matter of having the same interests, it's the matter of extent of said interest. Every single Asian girl you meet will watch anime, and quite a few will know a bit about Touhou. Maybe it's different for you, but I can say I'm part of a younger generation in a liberal state.

Having someone fulfill your desire of human interaction and intimacy at any moment is pretty nice. The only issue with a relationship is the greater the love, the more tremendous the loss in the end.

I think it's the tone of the piece. Pretty early on, you use the phrase "maybe it'll come to life and kill you if you don't take care of it," which is pretty grim. It also suggests the motivation of the character is one of fear instead of compassion. At the end, the "chill up you spine" bit comes at the same time as the fulfillment of the doll coming to life prophecy. At that point, it's pretty natural to assume the character is doomed.

Also, possessed dolls are just kind of creepy in general.

It went from questioning obvious things, such as the amulets we are all padding under our clothes, to that strange pillar the Moriya played with recently. In some case, it even got her into trouble, as she lacks the usual self-preservation instinct of a Gensokyo citizen.
But she's also extremely friendly and polite, so she managed to befriend even some youkai, which explains why she's still alive. Rumours says she even went to eat at the youkai's stand once.

I tried to shrug it off, blaming it on my sleepiness, after spending the whole day walking, and after a small discussion with my cousin, I borrowed her sofa and went to sleep, despite her claims that she wasn't using the bed. I wasn't comfortable with the idea of sleeping in a girl's bed, and it seemed rude to me, so I jumped on her sofa, and quickly went to sleep without even eating.

It was an awful night. Even in my sleep, I could hear the sunflower dancing around the house, scraping against the wall. At one moment, I had an out-of-body experience, and I could see myself, sleeping on the sofa while sucking my thumb, with the walls slowly closing in, growing deadly vines coming closer and closer to my body.

But the worst part was that she was partially skinned : her hands and her head were bloody mess, the eyeballs visible, the jaw opened wide in a silent scream.
I only noticed it later, as I was too shocked to notice it earlier : there were green marks all over her body. What it means, I'd rather not know, to be honest.

Screaming in horror, I crawled back to the living room where I have been sleeping, trying to stand up but always falling down each time. After putting myself in a corner, I slowly regained my composure and stopped hyperventilating.
That's when I finally turned my head from the gross show that my cousin has become to notice something else. The chair where my cousin has been sitting yesterday was empty, except for three small, pink items. One of them was looking at me. Yes, looking.

I realized that these were my cousin's face and hands, skinned and used as a grim disguise by whatever was here yesterday.
I ran away screaming and never came back. Even now, I still wonder what would have happened to me if I hasn't been too tired to miss the obvious, grotesque disguise.
