I like it, cried at the second meeting at Kourin shop when everything's going to hell.

Though I heard there is an extended version with Byakushit and Koishi, Alice and the likes, can't find it though.

That second meeting was pretty amazing, when Rinnosuke revealed the truth to Renko. I only got teary at the scene where Maribel and Renko kissed before Maribel disappears again. The ending was also rather depressing, if you don't include the epilogue where Renko resolves not to give up and recreate Gensokyo. Serious tears when Renko starts yelling Maribel's name on the hospital bed. Not to mention every time anyone said I love you the story became significantly sadder.

There were a lot of dramatic scenes, and I was far too retarded to see the twist coming so it was a pretty exciting read.

Though, a lot of things were left ambiguous. Did Maribel exist at all? Was Gensokyo wholly only Renko's delusion in her coma, Maribel's dream to save Renko, or a culmination of consciousnesses and the supernatural? Did Renko drop into a coma again to recreate Gensokyo, preferring her world of dreams to reality? Or does the supernatural actually exist in Renko's world, so she actually managed to create a paradise for all things lost? Is Renko's reality simply another dream-- she doesn't accept her fate as a tragic heroine in a novel.

I felt it could have been ended a little earlier, that epilogue was a bit unnecessary but inspiring at the same time.

I heard "Concealed the Conclusion" also had a similar story, but revolving around Marisa and Reimu instead.

As for your questions, well, I can't answer them since they are purposely ambigious after all.

And the epilogue is indeed awesome, rather than choosing the whole keep dreaming vs facing reality in usual escapist/realist fiction, the message becomes let's work hard to make dream into reality, which is Renko (or ZUN)'s message in CoSD.

Then again, I only didn't like the epilogue because I'm a sucker for tragedies. In hindsight, everything in the story led to that epilogue regardless. They used Yuyuko, Marisa, Reimu, and the Lunarians pretty well to hint at how the story would unfold. The few red herrings they threw out were a bitch, though.

The part with Yuyuko also makes me cry pretty hard. Other factions can just leave to find new fictional realms, but not Yuyuko.

Oddly, I didn't cry at the ending because it's a slow, good end. The part with the Eiki + Komachi at the end is done very well.

Yeah, the epilogue was indeed great. I love aphorisms regarding strength of human character and persistence at seemingly impossible goals.

I really wanted it to be a tragedy, so I somewhat felt the epilogue was unnecessary, but it was well done and fit in the narrative. I think in any eyes other than mine, an ending where the heroine does what she wants is the best. Renko literally says ""FUCK YOU""" to those wishing for a tragedy in the epilogue, as well.

I started reading Dream and Reality due to that video, it was a pretty awesome PV. Hmm, no amount of googling is helping me find the extended part, though.

Man, Marisa's and Renko's characterization was superb. My favorite type of characters in any type of literary work. Marisa, Renko, Mokou best 2hus for this...

And I got all of that information in the youtube comments of the video you linked.

Apparently it's sold out completely on melonbooks, but you can look for it there to wait for a restock.

There's also a person who has both books, but can't read Japanese+doesn't want to scan since it'll damage the books. Maybe someone can beg that person to take a picture of each page and give it to somebody else to translate.

The images will be shit quality and translations will probably take a long time, but at least it'll be there.
