While there is a discussion to be had for women's state in the workplace, equal opportunity stuff, companies not wanting to lose face by being harsh on female employees etc, works very differently for the idol industry as although management can push or not push members, the final say will always be from the fans who don't have to adhere to political correctness.

On another note, the existence of a legally binding clause in a contract which states that romance is a punishable offence isn't actually known. Akimoto himself alludes to it not existing saying that it was never intended to be a iron rule of the group, but members have spoken about such a thing existing (albeit usually in a light hearted situation), which makes me think that it was just a kind of verbal agreement, suggestion or request made by management which perpetuated on its own to become the core value we see today.

That said, regardless of if the contract exists or not, the idea of love-ban certainly does exist, and all members who enter the group DO implicitly make a promise to the fans to not have relationships while in the group. I've heard a lot of members express the idea of love-ban not as "do not have a relationship that is slutty", but as a sentiment of their commitment to the group and their fans. While they are giving their all to the group, they shouldn't have time for romance, and their own efforts and love should be whole-heartedly directed to the fans who support them.

From here is just my opinion. I can't bring myself personally to agree with explicit punishments from management for members having romantic relationships, regardless of the legality of it. The company does have a right to protect their image, but in that case, I'd much prefer if they came out and explicitly detailed the bounds of the contract, so at least they'd be open to any legitimate scrutiny if there was anything shady in it. But something I have no problem with is the fans ceasing to support a member if they happen to feel betrayed by that member. I think "slut-shaming" is despicable, and it frustrates me to no end when I read about members who were part of scandals getting death threats from people because of it, but from my point of view, the fans are perfectly within any moral bounds to come to dislike someone who they feel betrayed by or lied to by.

Ultimately I'd like the love-ban to be officially abolished in an unambiguous statement from Aki-P. Then the no relationships idea could still exist implicitly as a result of "a sentiment of their commitment to the group and their fans", but members would not be so ethically and morally trapped, and the fans would gain the first say in what happens to members who they feel betrayed them, with management decisions coming as a result of the fans, which I think is a much more representative and ethical order of events.

Sorry, that was meant to be my own perfect world scenario, I'm well aware of the POTENTIAL for backlash, and the fact that it takes away controlling power from management and by extension the from investors (which is what I assume you're referring to by Yakuza) which in turn makes it an nonviable business strategy. But the idea is that it takes some power from the management and gives it to the people where I think it belongs, and at the same time creates a less stiff, sock-puppet-esque organisation.
