Pocky's shape makes it iconic as a Japanese snack, but at the end of the day it's just (cheap, waxy) chocolate and crackers. I'm not sure what you were expecting, particularly of the original version. I enjoy Pocky for its convenient shape and for nostalgia value as I ate a lot of it growing up. Like how Americans eat Chips Ahoy cookies even though the chocolate is awful and the cookie is dry and crumbly.

Stop by your local Japmart if you are priviliged enough to live near one and check out the Pocky section to find the good varieties: mousse, strawberry, almond crunch, matcha, etc. Those have higher quality coatings with more memorable flavors.

one of the reasons is the famed "pocky game" where two people eat an end towards the center where they either kiss or fight for the last bite it was quite popular with my friends back in the day and i personally enjoy them however they're problem better in the place of origin instead of a generic in america. and another reason they could be popular is ease of eating like getting french toast sticks instead of a whole piece. and then there is personal preference and with there being a now large variety of flavors it's only natural people like the selection

Pocky = Decent. There are some good flavors out there, but it's nothing to go crazy over.

I'm surprised you guys haven't mentioned Jyagariko. All of my students eat this stuff and at first I didn't understand the hype, but a friend of mine left over a box of Baked Potato flavored ones and I became a believer.

Chocolate Pocky is pretty good snack, but I LOVE the strawberry Pocky. I like to nibble on it while I study. The end of the stick are nice because I don't get chocolate on my fingers. If I want a more chocolatey snack I will just get a chocolate bar.
