Strangely, In before "SPRING HAS ARRIVED MOTHER FUCKERS!"

>> No.125530

It depends on who you ask:

Astronomical "spring" is the period from the vernal equinox to the summer solstice. Meteorologists, however, noting that spring weather begins around three to four weeks before the equinox, consider "spring" to be the months of March, April, and May in their entirety.

The seasons of old agricultural calendars were more similar to the meteorological season of today. Traditionally, the English made 22 February (the feast of St. Peter's chair) the first day of spring, while the Irish made it 2 Feb. (the Christian Candlemas or the pagan Imbolc). In northern New England (where I live) one might consider spring to encompass all the time from the beginning of sugaring season (maple sugaring, that is - which is under way now) until corn planting (which is conventionally done at Memorial Day).

More on topic for /jp/, though, would be the fact that the traditional Chinese calendar, which Japan used until the Meiji Era, began with spring. Since we are past Chinese New Year, that means we are now also in spring according to that calendar as well.

tl;dr: Yes, it's now spring unless you're an astronomy geek.
