most of the japanese PM has a really short terms since they either resign or the house of rep decides to dissolve. anyway the PM in Japan has as much power as secretary of state in US. all the bureaucrats run the politics in japan and bureaucrats are owned by businesses

He was doing fine. Of course, by fine, at least he actually made some progress as opposed to his predecessors. But he just had to pull that shrine visit nonsense which the nationalism benefits were only marginal at best and only attracts the attention of paranoid right-wing cowards with nothing better to do. Koizumi was promising, but is over hyped by America. The staggering 0.2% Japanese economy growth was severely overrated. And roughly 70% of Japanese still refuses to destroy Article 9 which was pretty interesting despite the Maverick's popularity and achievements. Sadly, Koizumi picked a wrong friend called Bush and made Japan another Victim of the Iraq War. I mean, it's quite an achievement to actually allow Japanese forces to be deployed overseas for the first time since the pacifist years only to have them serve in a crappy half-ass war with hardly any gains was made. Obviously, JSDF suffered further lost of popularity among the populace thanks to the Iraq war.

What I do know is that the House of Representatives chooses the next PM, most likely one the top leaders of the LDP will be picked as PM. Fukuda is still running as the President of the LDP, but most likely will be replaced by Taro Aso. Aso will most likely be the PM until the Diet calls for new elections.
