They wouldn't have had Touhou characters if ZUN hadn't allowed it in the first place.
There's also an arcade card game that features Touhou characters, and several rhythm games that feature 2hu fan music.
The funny thing is, none of this is new. ZUN has been allowing non-PC only Touhou stuff for some time now. He's ok with it, and it never changed him or his releases. People are flipping out for nothing.

Okay yeah, I'll rephrase and say Fantasy Kaleidoscope isn't all that bad, it's just some of the decisions they take (like that fucking drawn out unrelated hot springs scene when their episodes aren't even 20 minutes long) are really dumb. They could have used that screen time for related things. Like Meiling's fight. Or more time for Sakuya's.

But Summer Day's Dream has a lot more of a 2hu feel. Fantasy Kaleidoscope is a steaming pile of dog shit, and attempts to pander to both secondaries (tertiaries and beyond) and primaries. The major content being nothing but fanservice garbage intends to bring the secondaries to the yard who don't know 2hus beyond being huge titty monsters from porn doujinshi. Having a small bit of the ''plot'' centered around the games or limiting the cast to just a few 2hus to slightly reference to the real game suckers in some primaries as well as a bunch of desperate secondaries who want to feel like primaries and thus think it's good (most of /jp/). Beyond the surface, it's stale and lacks substance, and any emotion and personality in the characters and in every other aspect whatsoever. Drop in a male character and you've got a pretty solid basis for harem anime, which I'm sure the makers would pull in a heartbeat, but that actually requires a bit more effort and creativity which they lack.

Summer Day's Dream on the other hand is more closer to what 2hu would be in ZUN's eyes. Sure, it's not desperately tacking itself onto a game as a desperate attempt at being "TRUhu", but it follows the idea of an incident being resolved with a lighthearted tone. It also has a little bit of fanservice, but it's not the focal point, and is at least done with some taste. The characters actually have some development and are given at least a little bit of personality. It has a much better setting, and is overall much more relaxing and easy going than "HOLY FUCK COOL EPIC BULLETS EVERY BIG TITS NAKED 2HU BUTTS BEST FAN MADE ANIME EVER."

Either way, now that ZUN has sold out, hopefully we'll be getting an official 2hu anime soon. He's definitely going to need that if he ever wants a to keep up with Kancolle.
