Please post your pictures of Japan here! The previous thread was quite successful, and some folks expressed interest in a continuation.

If you can, please post location and/or context for your photos - it really helps!

Sorry, I'm not too informed on the types of military vehicles. But there's a base just down the street (a minute walking), so they pass by quite often. They're very noisy...

Haha, that's crazy. Thank you!

Since the base itself is in a somewhat populated area, they lug all their artillery to an isolated area for training. It just so happens that they have to use the road that runs in front of my apartment to get there.

Well I haven't been to too many other places for too long, but in my opinion Oita is much more backwater - in a good way! It's very peaceful and people here are fairly laid back, maybe due to the onsen lifestyle. Much of the produce is grown locally, and the livestock is also raised locally, so the food is delicious. The beaches are a bit disappointing, but its proximity to Miyazaki makes up for that.

Most ramen in Kyushu is tonkotsu-based, but there's a ramen joint a few minutes away from here that has the most delicious butter soy sauce ramen in the world... The gyoza and kimchi fried rice are amazing, too.

He doesn't post videos as often in the past so I was also wondering if any of you guys know other similar channels who post drive videos like this.

To clarify that is edited, speed-up timelapse-ish videos with music. There are plenty who post raw unedited videos but they are not as appealing.

Kamikochi is pretty cool.
I went there in 2010 and it was much nicer to get out of the summer heat than I'd thought.
A lot of the other days of my trip to Japan I went to bed early because the heat drained me completely, but it was about 19°C on the mountain.

If you just pick the right materials for the onsen, it can't be that expensive to maintain.
Unless you hire people for everything from window cleaning to gardening.

If had money to invest in such a venture, I'd like to try it.
>hire teenager(s) to clean
>get two native speakers for the reception to take calls for reservations, guide customers to their rooms, and such
>hire a good chef (this is pretty important)
>do the gardening myself
I work at Grundfos, so I can get a discount on energy-efficient pumps, which probably wouldn't be bad to have at an onsen.

Ideally I'd hire a daily manager to help out in the reception and look after the other staff for contact with unions, talks about improvements, etc., so I could work a job with my skill somewhere in town.
I'm a machinist, so I just need a lathe or a mill to make things.

better what exactly??

Anyways, even up to 8 µSv h^-1 is negligible if it doesnt last long all that, and that's only in a tiny corridor immedaitely next to the site. Anything below 2 is just fucking nothing. And this is one of the largest earthquakes in recorded history hitting on old ass plant.

http://hps.org/documents/risk_ps010-2.pdf

50mSv, not counting norma background radiation being the acceptable level published by HPS. Which would mean that you could live in the 8 µSv h^-1 for 260 days and not accrue any higher risk of cancer or radiation poisoning or whatever. As you might have guessed, the areas on the map were not effected for 260 whole days after the incident. And this is the worst effected little tiny area, anything else you could live in and not notice a thing!

>better what exactly??

Cleaner and more sustainable (in the sense that terrestrial sources of fissible materials are finite, however long it might take us to run out) sources that have zero rather than the variously considerable to negligible risk of catastrophic failure posed by nuclear power.

I am enamored with the realistic potential for fusion power we're staring down the barrel of, but even if it proves untenable and we cannot produce a plant with net efficiency, I do think near future solar power and battery systems have promise to be reasonable primary sources.

Yes, its a fairly popular tourist spot. I used to live near it and went a few times, staying the night the first time. Those images are from my first visit during July or early August, and I hoped it would be like that again but it never quite hit the high of the first trip. So you might not find it quite that green. Here's a pic looking down over the town, close to the lookout, which /jp/ might find familiar.

It's a small place with a nice atmosphere, you can walk across town in about 6-8 minutes. I stayed the night at the hot spring building, but a lot of tourists try to stay in the traditional houses.

>>12443952
Not difficult at all; the most important thing is keeping an open mind. I had studied Japanese in college and then on my own for a while before coming, so I could speak and understand it fairly well upon arrival. That's not to say you can't survive if you don't know Japanese, but it would make a lot of things easier. Ypu should definitely come check it out!

If you want to travel freely and go off the beaten path, it's a must. For the daily commute, though, a bus or train is fine too.

Here's some rather melancholic pics from Namie, Fukushima.

Town was evacuated due to the tsunami and is struggling to get out of its current ghost-town state since most people moved away.

Note, radiation is NOT an issue here anymore. Same goes for the majority of Fukushima. The only problem with radiation away from the nuclear plant is radioactive top-soil, most of which has already been manually removed, and the remainder is being worked on.

Her mom seems to like me a lot, I have yet to meet her dad. She wants to get her job first before intro'ing me to her dad (something about being financially responsible while having a boyfriend will look better).

>>12450388
I see her, usually, once or twice a month, over a weekend period (Japanese people don't get a lot of days off in succession [she has a part time job], and I have to match up my work-free weekends with hers). I want to say 2-4 times a day. Most definitely protected, neither of us wants children.

>>12450394
A year now, but the seemingly wonderful thing about Japanese women, I have come to learn, is that they get attached very quickly, which is great, because I've always wanted a long-term relationship. Even a girl I had a one-nighter with got extremely attached. It's a really big difference from American women. But that's just from my experience.

Most Japanese women seem to want a really nice guy, who is polite and can be responsible. I definitely don't consider myself to be the most attractive man in the world, and I'm not tall by any standards, so it seems Japanese women are less concerned with physical aspects, and more with personality and smarts. I've seen some butt ugly guys with some beautiful girls.

That seems awfully bland and generic no offence. And I mean aren't most (Japanese) men "polite and can be responsible".

I've heard similar things. And they are really big on the 外・中 deal - men work (and have affairs, if so desired) while women stay at home and clean, take care of the children, etc. They refuse to take part in shopping or chores because "that's a woman's job", and some even freely talk about their lovers with their wives present because it's considered acceptable.

If my husband ever tried something like that, I'd take his balls clean off.

Could you explain how Uchi-soto is relevant here to romantic relationships.

As you can probably tell I'm obvious soto to all of this.

Also is this "culture in Japanese men", more of a generational thing like where its more prevalent in the older men. Surprising to hear that such "outdated and ancient customs" are still permeating through today's youth,

It's mainly the idea that the man is the breadwinner, stays out all night working and then drinking and dining with his coworkers, comes back home whenever he wants (or not at all), etc., while the wife is often expected to remain a housewife - not work - raise children, keep the house spotless, do laundry every day, cook perfect meals, and do all the shopping. It's not everybody, but it's still somewhat common even in younger relationships.

So I take it that despite Japan being a "western" country their marriages aren't really predicated on romance because it seems like these are more of an arranged marriage sort of behavior.

>> No.12450710

There's a bit of both - marriages based on romance and marriages based on convenience. It's not uncommon to visit companies that act as matchmakers, setting up two people based on values and the like. More often than not, the marriages that result from these omiai are of mutual convenience between two people who think each other is a bretty cool guy, but not necessarily the love of their life.
