The year is 15XX AD

In a last ditch attempt to escape from a society obsessed with vampires and witch-hunts, a pregnant Sakuya escapes to Gensokyo so that she might give birth to her children. However, as she attempts to cross the great Hakurai Border, she goes into labour between dimensions.

Her first born child, Remilia, and a delayed after image of 5 years in the form of Flandre, make it safely across. Their mother, on the other hand, is flung far into the future by at least 500 years at which point she sustains severe memory loss.

Fate brings them together once again as Sakuya, so traumatized by her experiences, believes herself to be one of the very vampire hunters she so despised and attempts to seek out any nearby vampires to slay in hopes that they would bring back her memory. What she runs into however are 2 darling loli-vampiresses alone in a red-tinted mansion whiling away the daylight hours.

Her motherly instincts suddenly take over as she is gripped by a feeling to nurture these children, taking the role of their maid/nanny in order to get closer. They somehow seem to heal a missing piece in her life and remind her of something precious that she had thought lost.

"Kaguya Houraisen" is not the name of a single individual, but rather a series of artificial humans made to resemble the ancient banished moon princess, who was killed by Mokou long ago. Occasionally, Mokou finds out about this, and it causes her to snap, forcing Keine to erase the history of her gaining that knowledge.

I prefer the idea that Remilia actually raised Sakuya, or at the very least, Sakuya was a part of their group when she was a child. I just can't see Sakuya "Open a window in space" Izayoi as a competent vampire hunter.

Than again, if she lost to Remilia, who said she had to be competent.
