I dunno but I doubt the members ever get a whiff of fanmail aside from heavily screened international fanclubs sending birthday cards.

Perfume seem like one of the more secluded groups. I try to avoid calling them an idol group for that reason because they dont really do fansigns/handshake events like an AKB type group would.

I don't really think there's anything wrong sexualizing them. They're probably one of the most tasteful and pure mainstream pop groups but they're still hot. I can guarantee you they'll fucking NEVER do anything like a swimsuit shoot for a magazine like most idols would- then again it's hard to call them idols.

Well this was when they were definitely an idol group where they did the gravure in order to survive as idols.
Nowadays all they do is fashion shoots for popular magazines, the odds of them doing it again are slim to none, though I wouldn't mind them doing it again as long as they're comfortable with it.

Nakata's been pushing her hard since her debut. Perfume just don't have that whacky Harajuku meme shit that draws in international interest and I'm honestly glad that they aren't going for it. When that asshole Psy did the talk show circuit in America they treated him like a sideshow attraction when he was trying to be taken seriously instead of the "whacky gangnam meme man" everybody saw him as.

Their old label (Tokuma Japan I think it was?) was also holding them back for years and kept them totally in the dark when it came to their international fandom. It wasn't until by chance when they went to the Cars 2 premiere that they saw all of their american fans.

I also think Japan's also pretty weary of taking a serious artist and trying to make them carve out a slice of the American market after Ayumi Hamasaki tried to break into the market and bombed years ago.

It's not so hard to differentiate their voices after a while.
Kashiyuka's voice is the easiest to pick out, since it's kinda weak and really cutesy. Nocchi's and A-chan's voice are really similar, when heard together, but alone Nocchi's voice is more raspy than the other three. A-chan is the hardest to pick out since she doesn't use her real voice, but tries to make it sound not as deep as it originally is, which in turn makes it sound generic. Listen to their older songs and start picking the voices out, and keep going till the newer songs.

yea i've been pretty much able to tell whenever kashi sings nowadays, but telling between nocchi and a-chan is still a bit of a challenge for me - i'm not really picking up on the "raspiness" in nocchi's voice. then again i've pretty much only been listening to level3 and JPN exclusively for the past while so that probably ain't helping. i'll give the older tracks a whirl and see if i can pick em out easier

As for their choreographer Mikiko, Perfume has an extremely deep bond with her, they spend most of their time with her practicing for live shows and such. To go even further, Mikiko directs their live shows and is in charge of most of what happens during the live shows.

As they have gotten older, their facial features have become stronger
Kashi used to have a very smooth face with marks/creases that weren't very noticeable (between nose and cheeks, and around mouth and chin) when she wasn't using strong facial expressions, now they are noticeable regardless
Nocchi looks the same, although she does look more tired now
A-chan's facial features became sharper like the rest, and her face has become cuter due to this, it's also thinned out the lower half of it

Kashi is hard to notice unless you look at non professional photos since they always touch those up

They all look great though and I don't really see these points as positive or negative ones

No I don't think they neglected us because of that. It was mainly because of their old label, Tokuma, being insular and not wanting to take any risks with breaking or busting in the western markets. Kpop artists/girl-groups like Wonder Girls were pushed in the west hard a few years ago and most of them didn't bring in the expected revenue.

There wasn't anything wrong with Tokuma's strategy since their national market is large enough already unlike Korea's that desperately tries and pushes artists into Japan. I'm just glad they can do some small venue shows instead of being shoehorned into the industry trying to capitalize on Kyary's success with her whacky meme image.

Fucking nothing other than bragging rights. The Jap PTA members get all sorts of goodies including the PTA dvds for free.

International fanclub membership is cheaper but the blog isn't worth $15 a year when Kashi posts a 300x400 selca once every 3 months and tiny resolution vblogs from A-Chan/The staff showcasing stuff like magazine shoots.

my favorite is display a lot of people talk shit about it because it takes a while to get to the vocals but the beat is great so it doesn't matter too me. ijiwaruna hello reminds me of how I felt about koi wa zenkei shisei. its extremely catchy and I can argue objectively better than its A-side but It never pops into my head and forces me to play it at that moment.

its one of those songs you put into a play list and chill. while cling cling and sweet refrain are catchy and when I remember them they instantly stop what I'm doing to listen to them and I find it hard to multi task when I listen to them.

then again sweet refrain is probably my most listened to song next to artificial girl and magic of love. wouldn't call it one of my favorites though.

I still don't know how I feel about hold your hand, it isn't bad and it stands out but I still don't listen to it at all.
