I imagine that's why they waited so long to do it. The cutscenes and story at the beginning wasn't that bad, but then I finally get into the game and have to spend 45 minutes doing a bunch of mundane tasks. It takes forever to get to any actual combat, and by then I didn't care. If I had paid for the game, I'd have probably been a lot more willing to put more time into it. The trial certainly gave me a bad first impression of the game. If it ever goes free to play, I'd maybe give it another chance.

Those /vg/ MMO generals always turn into an avatarfagging circlejerk, and it's usually a good idea to stay away from those guilds, unless of course you like that kinda stuff. That doesn't mean that all 4chan guilds are shit, though. The /a/+/jp/ TFT in on LoT was quite awesome, for example.

As for Balmung, yes, there's a bunch of RP FCs there, but they have nearly no impact on the other people there. You can occasionally hear them RP in /say, but that's it.

I would recommend just making a group in party finder and asking for help. It's really easy and fast, you just need like 3-4 geared people and the rest can just be there to fill spots. There's a lot of people that just sit around afk all day with nothing to do and will help out of boredom.

I'm not really mad about thief being called rogue. It's the fact that rogue is a class (which is useless) and ninja is the job. I guess to most people it's just splitting hairs, but I don't want to be a ninja. I want to be a thief/rogue. After being a career thief in XI, it just feels weird.

I am sure this sounds petty, but to me it matters. Does anyone know if it's going to be rotation-based like other dps jobs, or is it going to be more reactive? Either way, I hope you guys are having fun.

>> No.12389181

>>12389158
You can't have a reactive dps class. The entire point of dps is to press buttons is a certain order to maximize your dps.
A healer is really the only reactive role to play, as you sometimes have downtime and times where people are dropping like flies.

>> No.12389217

Well I thought if it was doing something with aggro management, it might have a reactive element. It was just a thought, but I get what you're saying. So many /jp/sies who want to play but can't afford to buy the game and pay the subscription fee. Do you think if I paid for them I could get my own harem?

I can see it now...my very own mansion filled with maids who serve me! They would hang out around the house all day and their job would be to look cute. Of course they would have to be able to go out and do raids and fight dangerous monsters. We need to stock the house with rare furniture, after all.
I would make them pass on rare loot and give it to me. After all, they should be happy to give it to their master. They can divide the leftovers amongst themselves.
I would make each of them level a craft and give the profits to me. If they disobey me they risk losing their character! A servant doesn't need money!
I would also occasionally take them into town to show them off and let everyone know they belong to me!
But I must also give them praise once in a while, tell them they did a good job and maybe a reward. But only once in a while! I don't want to spoil them.

Yes, each day would be fun if I had my very own friends to play together with.

Well, around 35 daily notes is what I expected them to change it to so I can't really complain about it being 32 aside from not just increasing everything by a factor of 5 across the board.
7 to 32 just grates on my nerves, as it's not like an extra 3 notes a day would make any real difference considering all the damage that's been done in the past month.

Have a character on Coeurl and Gilgamesh. Haven't played since day1 of 2.3 or whatever had ST and frontlines in it, and was already logging in just for an hour each day for the previous month. Pretty much only stayed because of my static group, which is broken up now. It will take 3 weeks to get one sands of time if you do the dailies only. Kind of dumb since you can get a sand in 1-2 days depending on your luck.

I still think SE fucked up bad with hunts. They underestimated the players and then waited too long to change anything. I hear they are raising the item level cap again in 2.4 so maybe SE doesn't care. Yay, more vertical progression!

Hopefully they learned from this and go back to launch style for tomes rather than submit to the ass devastated turbo nerds who cried that casuals could have the same iLvl as them without doing Coil.

Honestly I'd wish they removed any incentive from CM and Prae for players, queue times be damned. Those two single instances were so enjoyable for me back at release with new players. The music, the bosses, the cutscenes, all of it was really exciting and genuinely felt epic. Now every person getting into the game has to suffer through those instances with impatient faggots and intense whining. You only experience that 'first time' feeling once, being rushed through with faggots yelling at you while you have no fucking idea what is going on is not enjoyable. Watching cutscenes back in your inn to understand what the fuck just happened is not enjoyable. Hell, the inn cutscenes don't even show your party so stuff like the final cinematics look very lonely. You should enjoy your cinematics, not feel guilty for holding anyone back.

>> No.12413265

>>12413057
I did CM/prae during the first week and it was really fun. But the only reason it was so fun was because everybody was new and we had no idea what the fuck was going on. Everyone had shitty gear and had no idea how mechanics worked.

The only way for someone to experience that "first time feeling" now would be to find 7 other people who are also new. Good luck with that.

Even if it sounds mean, I don't think 7 other people should wait and be held back by a new player just because he wants to watch every cutscene. Especially if it's through the duty finder. I don't remember the exact time but someone timed the cutscenes and it was something crazy like 40 minutes if they were to watch everything. I wouldn't want to sit through that when I'm doing the dungeon for the 50th time and just want to get it over with.

They should just be happy they got carried and got the story dungeons out of the way so they can move on.

Anyway, there's always a big debate about that on the official forums. If they were to remove the rewards nobody would ever do the story dungeons and the new players would be stuck. Like that one anon who quit because he couldn't find people to do cape westwind.

>> No.12413606

>>12413265

Well that's the point I'm getting at. There's more fresh 50's than you may think and with shit like the recent summer holidays, the recruit a friend stuff and the game in general just showing up more and more in various places (news about the 1st anniversary etc.) I've seen countless newbies running around on Moogle. Each data center has about 10 severs, the queue time wouldn't be THAT bad all things considered. Cape Westwind has no outside influence from roulettes or anything and the queue time for that isn't overly excessive last time I checked.

As for holding back part - that's the annoying part of Prae/CM. Half of the group could be new and watching cutscenes and it doesn't matter, you only need a few people to clear those instances, especially when they just rush through it all. This means the people watching cutscenes aren't holding them back but rather by the time they're done watching their cutscenes they're locked out the fights... which really sucks. Right now it's a tradeoff - You either watch cutscenes and miss all the fights or experience the fights and have no fucking idea what is going on for these fights to be happening in the first place.

In my average Prae/CM runs I'd say cutscenes add about 5-10 minutes to the run. These are story orientated dungeons with ZERO drops or anything so why should the players trying to experience the story from the dungeon, as was intended, be penalised? It just makes no sense to me at all. I just wish some people would get some patience. It doesn't even apply to only CM/Prae either, near enough every single piece of content these days is SPEEDRUN OR VOTE DISMISS PLS. What happened to taking it easy?

It's an easy workaround honestly but I just wish the problem wasn't there to begin with. Either grab some friends, grab some random FC members or set up a PF looking for a few people to join you. You can then all enjoy watching cutscenes in peace with other people or with others who don't mind helping/waiting.

>>12414832

Ah, my bad. Thinking about it now it was actually part of low level roulette which is utterly stupid since it required 8 people to be 49+, using low level roulette and not get assigned to another instance. It's not like it's the last time you're going to do those dungeons anyway. Come back when you're doing them for the 3rd, 5th, or 10th time and see if you still want to watch the cutscenes.

Watching cutscenes back at your inn completely destroys the experience. It's nice to have the option to go back and watch cutscenes, which is what that functionality is for, but using it as an excuse to make people feel like utter shit for enjoying a story driven game by watching their cutscenes on their first run of a dungeon is just silly.

>>12415346

Some groups are chill. Some are patient. Some are fine with waiting. Then there's some filled with utter asshats and people who refuse to wait longer than 5 seconds, people who, as a dps class, will pull the boss alone and lock out half the group purely because they're impatient. It's extremely annoying at times.

>> No.12416142

the cool endgame story kind of necessitates having a static group to get very much much fun out of it i feel (coil etc)
and if you have a group like that you can easily get a cutscene run of castrum/praetorium. if you don't, then there's not a whole lot of fun waiting for you on the other side anyways tbh... i mean there's the ongoing "hard" primal stuff that's easy to duty find but...

it sounds mean but like, mmos are kind of inherently built as social games? there are plenty of problems with this game but it being better with friends/associates isn't one of them

>> No.12416324

It's only the last 2 story dungeons that have long cutscenes anyway. Don't think the rest of endgame is like that. After that you only have to worry about getting yelled at for not being able to dodge stuff in endgame fights!

>>12416142
You can get other people to help you with those dungeons so you can watch the cutscenes and stuff, but that doesn't mean the fights will be the same. Unless the ones helping you are also new, they will probably be geared and just faceroll all the bosses.
