Anyone else notice how women have quietly stepped into the otaku culture in a major way, proliferating the Doujin scene with their works, becoming renowned creators, and are now going to fill the next generation of a once completely male-dominated sector of animation production?

It's alright with me, but I think it's odd how women have managed to beat out men even in an insular subculture that was supposedly dominated by and catered towards male fantasies. Well, I guess there aren't that many female porn doujin artists compared to men, at least not producing straight/futa works. Yet.

Watch some old US animation studio footage. Women were the workhorses back then as well. They are rarely the creators or head animators but they do very good grunt work. Just a side effect of them being less creative in general.
