learning kanji is so hard and boring

how do I make it easier, or at least more fun?

>> No.12337434

Don't. It's not worth it.

Read mango.

Play a porn game.

Actually Amagami seems to have a shit load of hiragana and katakana. Try that. Also maybe songs.

>> No.12337505

just skip kanji until you have mastered japanese listening comprehension

then play visual novels until you learn all the kanji by vocabulary association

>> No.12341370

Do stuff you like while doing it, for example listening to music. After a while, your brain will associate the two things and it will be more fun to learn/study kanji.
Also, know the what type of studying works for you. Flashcards might work for you or maybe actually writing the characters. Good luck!

Learn on'yomi and meaning. Fuck kun'yomi.

>> No.12341406

I'm 5 years into my Japanese studies but I just started learning Mandarin a few weeks ago so I kind of know that feel again, OP. Getting used to these tones is a pain in the ass.

Just do a little bit everyday. Consistency is key.

This, kind of. Kun'yomi help with picking up vocab, so I wouldn't skip that.
Write the kanji down with proper stroke order while commiting the meaning(s) and readings to memory and pay some semi-conscious attention to the radicals.

Mnemonics

It's more effective than writing down a character 50 times because you're associating the character with a story.

The kanji's actual meanings and readings make better use of your memory than a mnemonic.

Writing them about 15 times each is sufficient.
Avoid counting how many times you write the kanji as it is unnecessary brain usage; use visual cues (such as a red line drawn down the middle of the page) to mark when to stop.

I feel you, bro.

Try RTK. If it works for you your suffering will end if you manage to draw up a schedule and stick to it (and be strict about reviewing). It's not exactly fun (though much better than most methods because you have to be creative) but it gives perspective and relatively rapid gains.

"Learn Kanjis with Patchy!!" game where?

>> No.12348957

Started RTK in 2009. Re-started it about 5 times a year every year since. Never got past 1000 characters. I burn out, then when I start again I've forgotten everything so I have to go from character 1 all over again.

I've even studied Japanese in a university class since then, and passed all the exams, yet I still can't read more than 100 kanji from memory and couldn't hold a conversation in the language. I deny that you could find anyone as retarded as me.

RTK is the boulder and I am Sisphyus.

And if I may add ... no one has the right to bully me ... I am simply taking it easy and learning at my own, very slow pace.

What the fuck are you doing, no one seriously learns kanji.

>> No.12349025

Just keep up OP.
You already got past the hardest part: Starting out.

I'd love to learn, but I just can't break myself to actually start on it.

>> No.12349029

>>12337422
Because you're not supposed to "learn kanji", you're supposed to learn words. Kanji is really not that hard. Don't make it harder than it is. Of course it's hard to pointlessly learn all the onyomi and kunyomi. It's not neccesary. Japanese people only do this because they already know most of the words in the language already. You don't. You have the option of learning the words and kanji together instead.

The title of your image uses kanji.

I guess this can be /djt/ until the new thread starts up on /a/

>> No.12349042

>>12349025
Download anki, download Core2k/6k optimized, fix the fucking awful format, and go. It takes zero initiative and lazily doing daily reviews can help.

Starting out isn't the hard part. The hardest part is around the intermediate part, where you know basic vocab and grammar, but actually reading anything is hard as fuck. It's real easy to just give up then.

>> No.12349043

>>12348957
Stop doing RTK. I hear this shit all the time. It's clearly not for you. Just read and look up the words. The kanji will stick, I promise.

This is a crappy thread with crappy suggestions, but please god no, don't bring the chuuni idiots and their dumb discussions over to here.

We're already here. This thread was linked right before /djt/ died so everyone moved over.
