I've taken my dolls with me to conventions multiple times now, nothing bad is gonna happen if you handle your doll with care. Don't dump your doll into a pile of dirt, don't drop it, don't let people touch the doll with dirty hands etc and you should be fine.
Also, buy a SD-sized carrying case if you don't already have one, VOLKS official ones seem to be out of stock but Ebay has some similar ones. Just search "doll carrier bag" or something similar. Carrier bag makes your life much easier, and they usually have enough room to put your camera/wallet/keys there too so you don't need any other bags unless you have leads of stuff with you.

As far as I've seen, they match up pretty okay. SQlabs make their heads to match Dollfie Dream skin colors, and since DD heads match pretty good with obitsu bodies, so should SQ heads.
Pic related, its the only one I found with SQ head + obitsu body. There is a difference, but doesn't look too bad.

I'm not certain but I suspect it's actually an Obitsu 50 body and maybe also an Obitsu head. Which makes it about 10cm shorter than a regular DD and comparable to a DDS.

MDD3 bought from parts at Volks store, going to use a Haruhi head with it - the older Dollfie Dream heads are a lot smaller so they work pretty nice with the MDD body. I've seen 04 head done with MDD body occasionally but that looks a bit dorky since the head is so big.

Any camera, no matter how potato, benefits from more lighting and also some sort of stabilisation (ie. not in your hand).

Open the curtains and put the phone down on a couple books or a box to stop the blurring and you'll get massive improvements. Or do what I did and make a box out of scrap wood that was lying around, a broken mirror, $2 worth of white cloth and a lamp. Cheap and nasty, but it helps. Also good for hiding the doll's surroundings if you need to.

Does your potato have any sort of white balance or exposure feature? I didn't think my Samsung S3 did, until I actually started fucking around with the camera functions and found out it has some basic features. Even with just that, it made a huge difference to the quality of the photos it takes. Nothing beats a real camera, but you can do a lot to help your phone's camera make the best of its' abilities.

I'm pretty hesitant to upload photos of my dolls because of my shit camera and shit camera skills, but we are generally pretty friendly here in the doll threads.

I've been eyeing the tokyo doll stuff, and been playing with the idea of buying an orange skin color doll and a bright color repair kit to create tan-lines. Anyone know anything at all about those repair kits and if it would be possible?

I'm sure it would be hard (though hopefully you could kind of tape the areas around and brush on the brighter color in just the sections you want.

It's just looks too intense, especially seeing as how the table around them seems to have cooler blue highlights, it just looks like the dolls have a light source directly on them. With the right depiction of eyes, I do not find them the slightest bit disturbing. It is the general entirety of the illustration of a doll that may or may not be disturbing. Facial expressions must be moderately subtle, and general features must be considerably unique, aswell as to their own separate likeness.

When a doll is disturbing, it is usually because it in one way or another gives the viewer too much of a feeling and association that it seems like a human. For it to seem too human yet not have any life in it is creepy.

There's also a different problem in the facial expression. This is not disturbing but rather just unpleasant. If they do not have subtle and calm expressions, it is often unpleasant and a bit ugly to see them with an expression that is too particular for a constant unmoving face.

There's also dolls that just look morphed or mutated or weird etc too which is a much more obvious disturbance/unpleasantness.

I generally find all Japanese BJD dolls to be sweet and really pretty. There's nothing wrong with any of the dolls currently posted in this thread, that's for sure... ...except that one reeeeally weird one that someone posted to show how weird it is.
