It's so hard to find actual dating sims nowadays because for some reason everyone is labeling their VNs as dating sims and it pisses me off.

Despite the shitstorm against it I'm looking forward to HuniePop. I really like the puzzle gameplay.

I played the old PC98 version years ago, back when I didn't know japanese all that well. In that version, in order to see the events and CG of a girl you had to click on the SD version of the girls in the room. Took me long enough to figure out that they were based on actual merchandise.

Probably because in a lot of cases the dating sim elements were mostly there as a filler due to lack of memory and increase play time rather than being over in 4 hours, so as memory rapidly increased they could put in a game made up entirely of "unique events" rather than 10% unique events and 90% "filler events".
