How else can you get "this thing is part spider" across? Anything like having the extra legs sprout out of their back is arguable more grotesque than the intact spider lower half.

Just give them multiple eyes and web shooting ability. Why's it enough for a mammal to have ears and a tail and it's x_animal? Why's it enough to have pointy ears to be considered a humanoid monster? Why not make the bug part more humanoid too? and multiple armed characters don't look bad. Just make them a 6 armed 4 eyed girl.

Hell if it's a naga type creature, it's usually a human with a snake tail, but if it's a bug, it's like gigantic horrible bug creature with a human on its head and a vag for a mouth.
