Correct. Alna and Akira are Volks-original characters, so Volks can release new ones of these dolls whenever they feel like it.

I think the point of the polls was to re-release licensed/LE characters that are impossible to find. (Al Azif re-release please)

I really wish that photo didn't have the fingers in it, to be honest. Such an amazingly beautiful doll, and the camera/camerawork is reasonably decent too, it's just the fucking hand ruining everything. You can try gently wiping with a dry cloth, but vinyl stains and it soaks up color/dye like a sponge. The point is: don't get smudges or dirt on your expensive doll's face because the stain won't come off without taking the sealant, and possibly the faceup, with it.

That is how I am spending my Friday evening.

Homura looks like a big girl in a little girl's clothing, and I think it works alright. Madoka looks like a little girl in big girl's clothing and it doesn't work quite so well, sadly. They are supposed to be identical Ob50's but Homura's clothes just seem a bit loose on Madoka for some reason. Kind of cute but quite awkward to say the least.

It sucks that I only got one set of gloves for Madoka, it means I can't use different hands without it looking funny, and Homura's "operator mode" gripping hand seems to be the only one that reliably holds the handgun and pipebomb she came with. I don't feel like using the heat gun every time I want to change poses. The gloves are fragile enough as is.

I would once have sworn that the body Homura came with has a longer neck. I first thought I hadn't popped the head back in properly, but far as I can tell this is just how it looks. Just changing the angle you take the photo from has helped a ton. I'd say any shot from below would be out of question with that doll because of the head. Try to go from a slight top-down on her if you want her best angles to shine. Try to have her head angled forward/down too.

If you ever wanted to change clothing, I'd recommend things with puffy shoulders or that go high on the neck.

Pic related has a pretty damn long neck, but it's mostly hidden and covered by clever angles. I'll post from another angle next.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind. I have a decent collection of Figma and the usual course for them is to spend 2 hours setting one up perfectly, then not touching it for 6 months, rinse and repeat. But the dolls get played with every few days and I don't always spend the time needed to set them up properly.

I'd learn some basics with your camera.
The basics you should read up on are about white balance, exposure and learning to read a histogram. It doesn't take long to skim over it, and your pictures will look a lot better as long as you try to keep those things in mind. They're the bare basics of photography.
It's a fun hobby to get into, showing people or not.

As a new dollfie dream owner, how in the fuck do I style doll hair so it doesn't look like a frizzy mess? I tried to tame a curly wig I own with a toothbrush and some hot water in a squirty bottle, but no luck. Then you were advised wrong. Don't use a barbie comb. You don't use plastic on plastic. Pay up for a wig brush (which has METAL teeth) or get a dog brush with metal teeth. Don't use HOT water, hot water will make curls fall. Use cold water as needed, separate the curls, brush them and curl them around your finger like I told you already you fucking dolt.

Thanks for the advice as always, but my "camera" is a Samsung mobile phone. Not sure if it even has any of those functions. About the most useful thing I found on it was incandescent light compensation, which certainly helped improve the relative quality of the photos it took, but still was pretty low quality overall. A better (actual) camera is in the financial pipeline, but as I mentioned above it's somewhat of a low priority compared to, for example, the major mechanical repairs my car needs right now. I'm fully employed, but not loaded, sadly.

I have plenty of photos of other people's dolls, though. I would like to see more owners posting their own girls here, good photo or bad. Every one is a motivation to put in that extra hour of overtime.

One drop of fabric softener in a full spray-bottle of water. Use sparingly. Brush hair with a SOFT toothbrush.

If you don't have a heat-resistant wig, get one. They are easier to style, tame, and don't look like utter shit (unlike all non-heat-resistant wigs).

I think I'd like to get a somewhat larger doll, but it feels like at least with figures they start to look a little odd the bigger they get.

I think that depends mostly on whether or not you like the look of the dolls. Personally, I think DD's do a better job of representing anime characters than most figmas.

The bigger they get the further into uncanny valley they go. Every person has an individual tolerance. I am perfectly fine with most anything up to an Obitsu 50 with painted-on anime style eyes but an Obitsu with the same 150 is terrifying and I think most people here would agree.

DD's are 1/3 scale. MDD's are considered 1/3 scale of a child, but the clothing they wear is about 1/4 scale, as a reference.

BJD's made of resin come in 1/3, 1/4, and 1/6 scale. There are some larger and some smaller, but those are the most common you'll come across.
