It's a reference to an old Futaba meme.

A long time ago on Futaba there was a spammer tripfag who went by the name Majiresu. A few of his posts became popular as copypasta, along with the image I have posted, a photo of a purported Futaba meetup between Majiresu and Age Saikou, Key Saikou, and Pirusu, 3 other well known tripfags of that day. The photo has since gone on to become an iconic piece of Futaba culture.

It is widely believed that the "Majiresu" in the photo is not actually the tripfag in question, but rather a random man who was shopped into the photo; nobody has figured out the identity of this man. There is debate over whether the other 3 people are actually the tripfags in question as well. Age Saikou in particular has been photographed at several other events and proven to look different than the individual in the photo, who is often known as "ikemen".

In time, another poster also known as ハムあき came out as the "real" Majiresu, although iirc he never provided any proof of being the original user of the Majiresu handle. Photos of this poster have been taken and he does not resemble the "おっさん" in the original meetup photo; nevertheless the man from the meetup photo remains as the popular image associated with the Majiresu tripfag name.

Majiresu proved incredibly popular as a meme on Futaba's nijiura nov board. For several years, there was a Majiresu general thread on nov into which a huge amount of Majiresu original content was posted every day, for several years. Many users claim that Majiresu is the most shopped man in the history of the entire internet, which may very well be true. An enormous number of Majiresu shops were produced.

A large number of spinoff memes were born from Majiresu, including in no particular order, but not limited to:

- Umaaji Shinshi, a nickname for Majiresu originating from a shop of his face onto a gay porno.
- Hideo, the original Umaaji Shinshi actor, being played as Futaba tripfag.
- Debate over whether it's Umaaji or Umami
- Use of Yotsuba as "Umami-chan", leader of the poster who pronounce the name as Umami.
- "Suddenly excited" shops, originating from a shop of Majiresu onto an insane asylum patient.
- ほマ新チw , short for ほんまマジレスは新参チェッカーやなw , as an ironic way to call out new users on Futaba
- そんな○どこにもないんやなw, originating from call and response posts in Majiresu threads
- Use of やなw at the end of any sentence to denote a reference to Majiresu
- Kimikiss-san shops, originating from further call-and-response memes in Majiresu threads (similar to things like the death star gif in flanfly threads)
- Donga Donga shops, same as above.

- references to Kitachinchi station, as it sounds similar to Homashinchi
- stealth Majiresu photos, where his face is hidden in an otherwise normal photo
- abstract images, in a similar vein to that of loss edits on /v/
- A guy from Pink Company/ネタ具現化 who became known as Kageresu for imitating Majiresu at several events, and poked fun at for trying to capitalize off of the meme's popularity.

And so on...

Around the time Futaba's Touhou containment board was created to get Touhou spammers off of Nijiura, someone realized that Sanae could be rhymed with Yurusanai, one of Majiresu's catchphrases, and thus Yuru-Sanae as an avatar of Majiresu was born.

It's kind of ironic that now Yuru-Sanae merchandise is often sold at events like Reitaisai, even though a large number of Toshiaki and 「」 claim to dislike Touhou fans, or at least don't want them posting on Nijiura.

Majiresu himself continues to live on as an icon of Futaba, separate from Yurusanae's growing popularity on sites outside of Futaba. However, since nov was deleted and all posters of Majiresu images were banned for a short period of time, open Majiresu threads have become a bit more uncommon on Nijiura.
