Tried 4 CAs 2 CAVs twice and got a ship crit to red at the first node. Both times. Then tried 4 BBs 2 CVs twice and ended up at node F both times.

I just used 2 CAs 2 CAVs 2 CVs and got to the boss node for the first time (by B-E-I-L). And got pic related as the boss drop.

Now going to replace the CVs with CVLs.

There are quite a few compositions floating around.

Most people tend to like 4FBB2CV since it's the easiest, but also the most expensive and has a chance to run off course to node F.

Some went with cruiser fleet. 4CA(V)2CLT. Also has a small chance to run off course.

Personally, I've been farming it with medium-light fleet myself using several different comp:
- 1CA 2CAV 2DD 1CVL
- 2CA(V) 2DD 2CVL
These two has extremely low chance (if any) of going to F. At least I haven't been running to F at all since I started farming 3 days ago. It takes you through BEHL route and skips the Wo node. People are still trying to work out the branching rule for skipping Wo node, but it seems that:
- Having any large ship will send you straight to Wo node.
- If you have no large ship, but have a CLT, or less than 2DD, or more than 2 of any ship class, it will be random.
- If you have 2DD, no large ship, no CLT, no more than 2 of any ship class, then you go to H and skip the Wo node, at least almost always if not 100%.

I'm also using another comp that supposedly takes me through the north route ADHL 99% of the time. The branching rule according to wiki is 1CL 3DD. So I'm using 1CL 2CAV 3DD, and it seems to be working pretty well for me. P.S. this path has a night battle node, so it's not for everyone.

I should also mention that almost all of the full compass rigging, medium-light fleet requires really high level in order to perform well. So if you don't have any high level medium or small ships, just stick with 4FBB2CV. It's the safest, albeit annoying and expensive, composition for this map.

I just line ahead it. Ru-class misses about 40% of the time, and 40% of the time my girls are able to hang on to orange, while the remaining 20% they go red and I retreat. Double Line doesn't really do anything for me, so I opt for crippling the Ru-class before it can fire again in the second round of shelling. In fact, I find it more risky to do Double Line with my medium-light fleet because I run the risk of not doing enough damage to their FCLTs, which can hit REALLY hard with HIGH accuracy if they survive to torpedo phase. I personally find those more dangerous than the Ru-class.

Replace both Type 21 radars on your CAs with seaplanes. And if you have any more No.13 radar, give one to Poi as well (I'm assuming you don't have any No.22)

See if that works. Your equipment LoS is a little bit on the low side so you might need to sacrifice some accuracy/power for more equipment LoS.

The problem I have with level scaling is it's so arbitrary. It worked back in Arpeggio, because it really catered to new players when the scaling maxed out at 45. But the difference between a level 80 player and veteran isn't much. It's easier than ever to collect rare ships and that matters far more than leveling. So why is it that leveling is the biggest contributor to HQ level?

I think scaling should be limited to early maps with simple rewards, like Amatsukaze. Then rather than scale according to level, which fewer and fewer active players will be low enough to meet, scale it to fleet quality. Introduce a system that grades equipment and ships and make the map reflect it. Keep compass requirements, don't factor in ship levels, and scale drop rates to discourage throwaway DD spam. New players will use what they've got while old players can dust off some favorites and not worry about stats. And then give every event a few extra operations with amazing rewards and no scaling to challenge everyone else. Not like Sakawa, but like Yamato. Also maybe add increased rates per low rarity craft to LSC so it's not as much bullshit to people who need a second chance.

Well, first things first:

There's your problem.

For the run in question, Mutsu and Yamato were the only ones with sparkles; they ended up remaining in green health at the end while everyone else got crit to red. For the second run, well, those without sparkles still suffered some.

Back when I was a noob I used damecons to clear 4-4 and 5-2, but they were usually wasted; I wouldn't be able to clear the map anyway. Now that I'm wiser and more inexperienced, using damecons actually seems to have a more positive effect. Both times a damecon was used up in E5, I dealt severe damage to the boss (one of the sinks and one of the 300+ damage runs IIRC).

Of course, it helped that I made sure that all my ships (both main and expedition) were sparkled before I sent them out. When I first started E5 I had around 10 hours left before the event ended (I spent a long while hoarding resources as well as preparing sparkles for a mega push on E4 and E5 on the final day; I'm the anon who cleared E4 without using a single bucket); I cleared E5 with 2 hours to spare. I made sure to resparkle any and all ships that lost their sparkles; sparkling took up more than half of my 8 hours (one particular sparkling session took up almost 2 hours), but the end result was well worth it.

The wikia community may be shit, but some of their advice is sound. At least, "always, ALWAYS sparkle your fleet for E5" certainly was.

As for your equipment... you only really needed 7 strong green planes to get air superiority at the boss node. You had 8. An extra attack from Akagi could have helped a bit some. (Eg. Reppu/Reppu/Reppu/Suisei 12A on Taihou, Shiden Kai 2/Ryuusei Kai/Reppu/damecon on Akagi, Shiden Kai 2/Ryuusei Kai/Reppu Kai/damecon on Kaga would have given you 367 air power; boss node needed 320.)

No Taihou here, so I used Shoukaku instead; I realised that I didn't dare to advance past the second node if she was in red and only had one damecon (one of my 6 retreats was because of this), so I stacked two on her instead. It worked for the most part; Akagi and Kaga didn't get crit to red too often.

Finally, you only really needed one expedition to the boss node; it sometimes oneshot the weak targets, and when it didn't, it usually took more than half their HP, making it easier for me to kill them and harder for them to severely damage my ships. Non-boss support didn't help me much against the BB hime, and my fleet was strong enough that the other nodes didn't bother them much either way.

I had zero trouble with E-5 with no sparkles other than ones gained from MVP'ing (Yamato was pretty much permanently sparkled). Used Yamato, Nagato, Mutsu, 3 CV, boss support. Once I switched to line aboob for Hime node instead of double line I made it past her about 70% of the time instead of 10% of the time as my ships would usually get hit to orange or I'd dodge both her attacks. Killed the boss outright about half the time I reached her, chipped her to varying degrees every other time.

The Flag Ri Kai in the 2-5 night battle node isn't too bad. I've been farming with 1CL 2CAV 3DD since 2 days ago and most of the time my DDs were able to tank her cut-in at light or medium damage. And the Elite Ri were jokes with their scratch damage double attack for like 95% of the time. I only had to retreat about 20% of the time at the night battle node, which is only as about as bad as being sent home by Flag Ru.

Though I'd agree that this composition is not for everyone. You need a very high level fleet in order to perform well using the north route. So if you don't have that to back you up, just stick to the south route.

I use 3BB3CV, and put Mutsu as flagship, no damecon on BBs. The weakest Mutsu is well protected by two hotels and 3 CVs which are not used for dealing damage. I can easily reach boss node 19 times out of 20 attempts, and enter night battle with less than 3 target left most of the time. Never try 4BB2CV because of the troll sub.

And in terms of air superiority, Taihou might be slightly better than Aakagi and Shokakus, but won't make much difference. Kaga is the best one.

Well, the way the guy does it is he uses either 1 BB/BBV/CA/CAV as flagship to level them up.
Then slaps on 3-5 cvls with 1 dive bomber on each, and the rest of the slots filled with yellow guns, and one of the CVLs running a Saiun. It all depends on what he's trying to level up though.
If he wants to level up a BB, he keeps it as flagship, and stocks 3-5 CVLs, SS optional.
If he wants to level up a CA/CAV, he'll bring either a team of CA/CAVs with zuiuns so they don't out damage the flagship CA/CAV. Again, SS optional.
Not sure how he goes about leveling up DDs/CLs. Though classes that can equip recon planes are able to hyper level at 3-2-1.
The goal is to get your flagship MVP, so you get 1,152 or something EXP per sortie, and farm as long as you have resources.

Any ship that has a recon plane in 3-2-1 should be able to proc a CI/DA.
Like the Sendai Class or the Nagara class.

She's definitely the best choice for 5-3 because she can equip 2 guns and 2 ASW, I had to switch to her for my final kill (instead of 6 DD).

For 5-4 I use Jintsuu as my drum carrier with the last drum in Tone's 4th slot, she has just 2 less armor and 5 less firepower than Mogami-class with half the cost, and she's even slightly cheaper than Yuubari. And her 98 torpedo actually can kill something off at boss node before night combat.

It isn't nearly as bad as node A on the north path.

Just need to bring more torp bombers. You only really need 2 Reppus in the 2nd smallest slots on both CVLs in order to achieve air superiority against Flag Nu. That leaves you enough room for at least 4 Ryuusei Kai depending on how many Saiun you needed to bring. That way you can usually take out at least 1, often 2 of the fodders, leaving you a better chance of finishing off the rest. And if you bring CAVs, you can load them with Zuiun Sq 634 for more air bombing damage as well.

I brought 6 RK along with Reppu Kai and Reppu (no Saiun), but they went and all targeted the same DD or missed every time I got the line ahead fleet, plus it was always the very first enemy attack that would crit a CVL. Something quite peculiar happened to me.

I was leveling Urakaze on 5-4-A, but I decided to switch to 4-3 since I was leveling a DD and that map would yield more exp.

For 4-3 I just switched the CVs for CVLs and the sub por a CL, the order was DD, CAV, BB, CVL, CVL, CL.

Now, why did I mention the order? It was because when I switched the CL up to the 4th position, DD, CAV, BB, CL, CVL, CVL, the compass would send me to the J node, but then it would send me to K -> L -> M.

A recent time I looked at the maxed stats list I realized that the last time they buffed CAs, Maya and Choukai actually got 1 more max firepower than Takao and Atago (who get 10 more torpedo). So Choukai is technically a tiny bit better since torpedo stat is basically worthless on CAs.

Maya was objectively the best CA though until Haguro got Kai-2. Tone and Chikuma were also good, and even better as Kai-2 CAVs now.

With Parsley so active drawing new ships, I hope Choukai gets a Kai-2 (I was holding out hope last time even though I knew it was most likely Haguro). Of course historically she was the one Takao-class that didn't get major upgrades, but history didn't stop them from giving Kinugasa a Kai-2 (while Aoba still doesn't have one).
