I realized that Korean dramas just don't fulfill me anymore. I am not entertained, I do not laugh or smile at all the jokes and quirky moments, I don't feel sad, I am unable to emphasize with the protagonists, I experience zero pathos from their painful life experiences, I just feel nothing.

Because I am neither Korean, nor have a Korean girlfriend -- I choose the next best thing. I used to live vicariously through Korean dramas, I've observed Korean girls and the Korean society as a whole and learned a whole lot about them and their living and behavioral patterns.

A lot of stuff could trigger self-insert for me before. Either a pretty, handsome, flower boy MC or someone else. I used to self-insert either as the beta or the alpha, depending on my current mood. All I needed to do was imagine myself in place of let's say Yoo Ah In and bam, I became Yoo Ah In.

It's worth mentioning that Korean dramas did serve another purpose to me, too. The feelings of betrayal and emotional hurt were my fapping fuel. For example, it felt somewhat arousing and very primal when a female consciously chooses a better, stronger, richer alpha male and denies the beta male or just completely ignores him. It made me self-insert as the beta less and less.

But none of this works for me anymore, I guess the novelty factor wore off. And I have to move onto something else now. Probably Japanese dramas.

Some dramas are good, some are wish-fufillment shit; same as anime, same as western television. Subs are sometimes available but don't get your hopes up, although if you're looking for one there is probably a decent chance there are subs for it.

is a shitposting faggot, there are two scenarios here.

1. you're a grown man watching cartoons, aimed at a demographic that spends over 3 months locking themselves in a room and most of it is about intentionally sexualizing little girls.

2. you're a grown man watching dramas of varying genre that is aimed towards normal people and the times the shows are broadcast usually reflect this, the only difference is its in a different language.

The choice is yours to make but if you listen to shitposters you're going to miss out on a lot of good stuff, do you honestly care about what other people think of you.

As a side note, if you ever actually went to japan, people would be a lot more likely to discuss the latest episode of a popular drama than a popular anime.

it's pretty funny how people who watch anime often elevate themselves on some kind of upper intellectual level for some inexplicable reason
you see it all the time in the few movie threads that we have. someone wants to discuss something they're recently seen and anime pro comes in and starts calling people weeaboos for watching them when he watches cartoons aimed at middle school children or child predators in his free-time (all day)

All nerds do that self elevating shit. I don't think it's really exclusive to anime nerds. However it is especially stupid when it's stuff they'd probably love anyway.

I recently began watching jdrama and I them for the same reasons I like anime. They're relatively short seasons (10 or 11 episodes) with contained stories that wrap up pretty neatly. It's a big reason I dread watching a new series on TV, I don't want some 8 season deal.

Same here. I can't imagine watching a Naruto/Bleach/OP that goes on for years and years, inching by painfully slowly and inserting filler for its own sake, or a full length 50 episode Taiga. The hard 540 minute limit for most japanese television makes screenwriters get serious about pace and cut the fat from their scripts. That's also about the same amount of screen time in the average HBO season.

I'm yet to see a drama with an actual storyline. The jdrama formula is so overly simplistic it sickens me. A group of people is put in a random setting (preferably high-school related) and focus being set on someone's emotional issues. Everyone is crying and highly empathic, the end. It never makes you think and suspense is suggested at best. If I wanted this kind of superficial nonsense I'd interact with real people.
